another reason I don’t want a mac.

browsing twitter, I ran across This article that annoys me. According to the article apple will be adding even more restrictions on their apps, in what they can access on the mac computers as of march 2012. Their calling it the “sandbox”. I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll soon be seing jailbroken mac OS lions soon to remove all these stupid restrictions, just like the iphone and IOS has.
We’ll soon see, but until then, sorry I’m not getting a mac, apple can ram it right up their asses.
I want complete, unrestricted access to my computer and it’s functions, and not be dictated to by a company on what my application or applications can or cannot access, thank you very freakin’ much.
I shouldn’t have to justify why I have to have access to the interfaces for the network cards, or the local folders to read and write to, it’s unnecessary and in my opinion uncalled for. Yes the app stores the only place people may go to get apps now, but just like the IOS app store, their will come out jailbroken versions of the OS that’ll remove the sandbox restrictions, and let non app store applications work again. In the beginning we won’t need it according to the article, because applications that aren’t in the mac app store will still work, but the sad fact is sooner or later apple will remove all ability to run applications not bought through the mac app store, and then it’ll be jailbreak time, kids. The comment boards await you.
Note to the appleheads, I don’t want to here wining that I don’t give mac’s a chance, I want constructive prooven with fact responses, not that I’m just a stupid windows user with absolutely no mac experience.

their’s something to be gleaned from this post.

You learn interesting things from blogs. wesput an entry out on histwitterthat pointed tothis entry about anal sexand being a curious individual, I headed back to the blog’shome pageand was scrolling through entries, and ran acrossthis entry about infidelityand was impressed about what I read. I’m going to quote the entry in it’s entirety because I feel a few x gf’s of mine that read this blog can bennifit from this entries wisdom and it might help them in the future.

Can you overcome infidelity?
I had a question about this from a reader today and I have to say that I’m not a therapist or a marriage counselor..they would still be your first resource. However, I will give you my thoughts about this.

I think the the old adage of “once a cheater, always a cheater” isn’t true. I do believe that we are capable of monogamy. I also believe that women and men cheat about the same, although the stereotype is that men are always the ones committing the infidelities. I think that women cheating is on the rise, because women are out in the job market more than they have ever been. They are now encountering more men and interacting with other males in higher numbers…this has lead to an increase in women cheating. So, no longer can we point the finger at the men only!

I believe that almost every long term relationship will encounter infidelity at some point. The degree of infidelity may vary…maybe its a blow job…or a kiss..or sexting or full on sex. Maybe its emotional infidelity. We have reached a technological age that our grandparents didn’t have available, so the thought of a modern day marriage lasting 50 years without either partner cheating in some way seems almost inconceivable. However, do I think it has to be the kiss of death to the marriage? NO…

I think if your partner has cheated, be it the man or woman, the first thing to do is look at how you found out. Did they confess it to you, out of remorse and guilt? Did you catch them fucking in your bed? Was it a drunken night out that got out of hand, or was it serial infidelity that has been going on long term and repeatedly? The answer to those questions will clue you in on if your relationship can survive the infidelity or not. If your partner confesses to you, then I’d say there is hope for your relationship. If you catch them fucking in your bed, probably not. If its a one time incident where things got out of hand and alcohol was involved, again there may be hope. If they are a serial cheater and you’ve caught them numerous times..then its probably time to cut your losses.

I’m going to use the man as the cheater in my post, because the reader today was asking me about her husband..however, the advice applies to both sexes and I don’t want to imply that this article is to bash men.

So, lets look at the scenario where I think your marriage could survive and maybe even come out stronger in the long run. Say your partner has cheated…they confess the infidelity to you and tell you what happened. Okay, that is good that they are remorseful, it shows that they are aware their actions have dire consequences. The fact that they are willing to discuss with you how it happened, again shows that they are seeking your forgiveness. I think these all show that your partner made a huge mistake and is truly sorry for it. The one thing you need to do is get to the bottom of why it happened. This may mean you will hear things that you don’t want to hear…because cheating is almost never just about sex. Its about a lack of connection, communication, love, or affection…its about not feeling heard or appreciated…usually the last thing its about is gettin’ some strange cock or pussy.

Once you find out what the root of the problem is, then you can address how to fix that…in addition to the broken trust. Trust is such a hard thing to get back once its broken. Don’t expect to confess to your partner and then get pissed the next week when she grills you about where you’re going and when you’ll be back…trust has to be earned back once its broken and you have to realize that it will take time. That being said you also have to look into yourself and see if you can truly forgive. By forgiving, I mean letting go of the image of your partner with another person…letting go of your anger and resentment…of not throwing it up in their face at every fight. Forgiveness is truly more important for YOU than your partner, because holding onto those feelings will only bring stress and negativity into YOUR life. If you think you can reach that point where you have forgiven your partner then of course, move in the direction of healing your relationship. However, if you don’t think you can ever forgive them or see them the same way…then it may be time to realize that you can’t stay in an unhealthy relationship, and if your relationship continues under those conditions it WILL be unhealthy for both of you.

I think that there is a place for marriage counselors and therapists and if you want to truly mend your relationship then look into seeing someone that can be a neutral 3rd party to help you work out why it happened and help you release your feelings of anger and hurt in a productive way. I know that we all have a knee jerk reaction to someone cheating on us…its anger, hurt, jealousy and fear. You fear that you are going to lose your partner, that life will change forever…that is a big fear. It may or may not come true, but you can’t live your life based on fear. Fear freezes you in place…and if you are going to move beyond an infidelity and become a better couple then you have to take steps away from fear and towards healing.

One of the hardest things to overcome in a relationship…in my opinion…is a lack of respect. If your partner has no respect for you then they won’t care about hurting your feelings. They won’t care about your embarrassment or anger. They will feel that they can do as they wish and you’ll do nothing about it because they have the “upper hand” in the relationship. A lack of respect is worse than a lack of trust in my eyes. Trust can be rebuilt over time, someone that doesn’t respect you will probably never respect you. So, look at a partner that has cheated multiple times…why don’t they just leave you? If they want to behave like they are single then what is keeping them from being single? If you look at that you may see that you are being USED. You are being used to watch the children, or bring home a paycheck. You are being used and they could care less about anything but you serving their purpose.

This is a relationship that you should really consider if you wouldn’t be better off on your own than in a toxic and hurtful relationship. Again, don’t let fear freeze you in place…move forward toward what you deserve, a loving and committed relationship, but first you need to let go of the one holding you back. So, although it doesn’t seem like it…sometimes infidelity is a good thing, because it opens our eyes to what we try to not see. It is a catalyst that causes us to act when nothing else would.

I think that affairs/infidelity/cheating hurts. It hurts your true partner, it hurts the person you’re cheating with, it hurts your integrity and values. I think there is no good that comes from cheating and if you are ever on that edge, instead of stepping off, turn around and go back. Go to your partner and talk to them truthfully about what you need and what. Talk to them about what you’re missing in your relationship. Try to make the relationship you are in the one you want. Its easier to fix it now than it is after you’ve cheated. So, take a deep breath and realize temptation is all around us, but we don’t have to give in to it. We can rise above..we can stand our ground and realize that you can choose to make a good decision or a bad one. The consequences of that decision will reverberate through your life…so stop…STOP and really think if its worth it.

I want nothing more for any of my readers than to have wonderful, loving and happy relationships. I want you to get what you need, want and deserve from your partner. But, I know that life is rarely perfect and the road is never smooth that we travel. However, you can look within and see the person you want to be, and the relationship you want to have and strive towards it. It is within your reach, you just have to be willing to put in the work, the time, the communication and commitment to make it all you deserve.

That’s my wisdom for the night. later, all.

You find all kinds of neat things when you’re trying to plan your next move in life.

So tonight I’m bouncing around MWCC’s website and looking at their academic programs. You know, doing that whole planning what I’m up to after January, which is my family’s and my agreed upon point at which I’m done with FSU
I was looking at their Computer Information Systems associate’s degree program, and saw something that I really liked. I liked it so much I had to go point it out to both my parents because it was just the coolest thing I’ve ever seen any college do.
If you go to MWCC’s CIS Program description and requirements you’ll see that under the helpful hints section it says the following.

The college’s adaptive computer lab, providing assistive technology for students
with disabilities, is available. Technical standards must be met with or without
accommodations.

You don’t see that at Fitchburg State. The only mentions you see of their adaptive computer lab are those on the section of the website pertaining to disability services. Yes, I searched. I looked. The only other things I found were their computer usage policies.
I said this to my parents and I have no problem saying it here. The fact that MWCC mentions their adaptive technology lab on other sections of their website makes me feel a lot more confident in their abilities, and more welcome there as a student. They want us to get mileage out of their services, and they don’t stick it in a little corner of their website and hope people are going to find it. As you’ve seen, they come right out and say this is available, go use it.
As a future student of theirs, I’ll say that in my opinion, the fact that they publicize their assistive technology lab in multiple places on their website makes me feel welcome there as a student. It makes me feel more confident in their abilities to provide the services I require, and provide the required materials in whatever format I may happen to request.
There have been times when I have specifically asked for one format, and asked that another format not be used, and my requests were either ignored or denied for whatever reason. As much as MWCC publicizes their adaptive lab, I somehow doubt that this will be an issue there. Even reading their academic program descriptions has made me more confident than I have been since high school, because I’m starting to see already that I’ll get what I need whichever discipline I choose. I won’t be told “You can’t do that. there’s too much math involved.” or “It’s too visual.” (Except for photography, but blind person with a camera is automatically a bad idea anyway. :P )
Anyway, those were just my observations for the evening. Maybe some of you will find them enlightening, maybe some of you will just think “Ugh, she’s rambling again.”

This can’t be happening again.

This morning I had to wake up and remind myself, “No, you’re not a freshman in high school.” I’m having flashbacks to my early days of simply not wanting to go to school because I’m not wanted there. I don’t want to be there. Don’t want to go. I want this nightmare to be over. I hate that place. It, obviously, hates me. There are only 1 or 2 people in there that’re worth my time anymore and they’re students. I can’t stand that place anymore. Hell, if my family didn’t want me to finish out the semester there I’d fill out the withdrawal forms, grab the remainder of my shit out of the dorm and get out of there and never turn back.
Who was I kidding, I wasn’t wanted there from day 1. I went from a high school that couldn’t help me, to a school for the blind, did awesome there, went to college and it all went to hell from there. I’m nothing to that place. A bug on their windshield. Something they want to persecute and get rid of. All I am to them is garbage. Nothing more, nothing less.
I want to be somewhere I’m wanted. I want to be somewhere that’s willing to help, and hell, maybe even find me a job in the bargain. I want to be somewhere I’m not just a pain in the ass. I want to be somewhere I know people are going to care about me as a person, not just a statistic or part of their job.
Yes, I’m frustrated, angry, annoyed, depressed, panicky, generally not fit for human company. I can’t wait to be done with that place. I feel like it’s holding a part of me hostage that I’ll never get back. I felt like this before I transferred high schools, too. I thought when you went to a university, you were supposed to be part of a community. I guess I was wrong.

Read between the lines.

I wonder how this local community college treats its students? Come January, methinks we’re gonna find out.
4.5 hours, 2 screams, a walk in the rain and a caffeinated beverage later, I’m still seeing red. And yes I did actually go outside for a couple of screams. I think I need about 8 more by the time the red blur wears off my vision. Mom cooked a dinner she knew I’d eat, I only ate half a bowl if that.
I really hope these people realize eventually what they’re doing to my head. But oh…wait… I’m sorry… I mistook them for a second for people who actually care. I forgot they’re all droids that are preprogrammed. As long as it looks like the droids are working correctly, noone actually cares about the living, breathing people involved. And when those people have had to start medication and start seeking counseling, it doesn’t matter to them. It doesn’t matter at all because what they’ve done looks ok on paper and as long as they can go home and say they’ve put in a successful day of work, it doesn’t matter who they inconvenience.
It doesn’t matter that between now and the end of the semester, my family now has to shell out upwards of $1200 in gas. It doesn’t matter that in the winter, when we’ve got 2 feet of snow on the ground, but that campus is nice and clear, that I won’t be able to get to class because driving conditions are hazardous and nobody in my family should have to get in a car accident in order for me to get to class.
Yet, I still have no answers. Nobody can tell me how I fell through the cracks last year and why I lived in the filth I lived in. Nobody wants to take responsibility for that. Nobody can tell me why is it a girl got away with disrespecting my family the way she did. Noone can tell me why it was that people avoided me all semester last year because my clothes stank of mold no matter how many times I washed them. Nobody can tell me why the furniture safety violations I complained about weren’t looked into. Nobody can tell me why I sat there all of February with my window open praying for a breath of air that wasn’t contaminated. Best yet, noone wants to explain how and why the bacteria culture that was that room got so bad I actually got a UTI from it.
Yet, I’m the bad person here. Well, you know what? I’m tired of being the bad person. Fornicate this taurean dung, I capitulate!

If I had a dick, and today were a person, I’d force said person to suck it.

1. Shane’s on a bus heading back to Ottawa.
2. I’m emotionally fucking wiped right out.
3. As a result of the above, I’m ready to stuff my foot up the ass of the next person who anoys me.
4. For the love of whatever may or may not be holy, please don’t let it be one of you.
5. Packing in a holy fuck hurry results in you not nowing where in the hell half your shit is. don’t try it at… well…no, you won’t try it at home.
6. If something doesn’t go right soon, I’m gonna snap and probably end up in the hospital getting downers by IV until they can find something they don’t have to shoot me up with that won’t make me a spaceshot.
7. Related: Murphy, back the fuck off or I’m gonna die and go wherever you are just for the sole purpose of kickin’ your ass, then I’ll reincarnate as a cat. (Preferably a spoiled and well-love one like mine.)
8. The visuals I could provide you with if Shane doesn’t get a work visa for the states could curl your toes, make your eyes water and essentially make you cry like a little girl and run away.
9. Also, a note to whatever cabbie drove me to a friend’s place for the night, I can shut the door myself thank you, there’s really no need to shut it on me, no, really, I promise. You’re quite lucky you missed and didn’t nail me in the rib cage because I would’ve called your manager and he and I would’ve had a conversation.
In summary, now that I’ve been sitting here spewing brain vomit all over the place, I feel somewhat kinda sorta more human. Now, let’s not have anything else turn into a royal fucking clusterfuck please and thank you? Good thing flip-a-shit-ometers are not actually physical devices, I’d've had to replace about 10 over the last week.

An ongoing news story catches my eye, then comes up in psych class.

Some of you may or may not be familiar with the name Jordan Brown. Well ok, I get it, it’s a common name, so you’ve probably heard it somewhere. His case came up in adolescent psych the other day while we were discussing whether a 15-year-old mother should be allowed to make major medical decisions involving her child by herself, or should others be involved to assist her in the making of those decisions.

So the scenario looke something like this. The girls 15, baby’s daddy’s 17 and just got out of jail on assault charges. He’s hanging out at the hospital, having a grand old time, making all these free phone calls to god knows who, kinda going, “Look at me! I just got out of jail!”

So he’s doing that, and this 15 year old mother, who’s HIV positive, whose child is also, is making all these oh my god huge decisions, that really, no parent should be forced to make alone.

Jordan Brown came up when we were asked, is the father an adolescent or an adult? I’d seen an update on his case, which I’d been eyeballing for awhile, Over here a few days prior to the discussion we had.

Jordan Brown should have been the typical 11-year-old kid. He was adjusting to a divorce or breakup of his parents, and that’s difficult for any child that age. However, on February 20, 2009, this child took a youth-sized gun, and shot his soon-to-be stepmother. His dad, Chris, had given the gun to the child as a Christmas present. He’d also proposed to the deceased on the same day.

First, why would you give your 11-year-old a shotgun? I mean, I get it if you want to teach your child to shoot, for hunting purposes, like this guy did, but couldn’t you see signs of trouble before?

Ok, so I’m a bit biased here, but I would never hand my 12-year-old brother a gun! That’s just asking him to use it stupidly. I can see giving a kid a small youth-model gun when they’re around 15 or 16, because by that time, one hopes, his sense of morality has developed. But to give a kid in a precarious or new situation a gun, at age 11… No.

What was the father thinking? hadn’t there been reports from the school, teachers, principal, whoever else have you, that would indicate to any sensible person with a working brain in their cranium, “Um, by the way, this kid shouldn’t be in possession of an unregistered firearm.”

No, apparently, in Pennsylvania, you don’t have to register children’s firearms. I’m now curious as to whether that’s the case everywhere, must look it up later. If the child shoots and kills an adult, is he fully responsible for his actions? Could part of the blame be placed on Dad for giving the kid a gun and not locking it up in the first place? Ok, I guess I can see allowing a kid a gun, if you’re smart, and you lock the thing up in a safe after each use. But this genius let his 11-year-old kid keep a gun, out in the open, in his room.

So the kid’s 11, he’s jealous and angry that his new stepmom’s having a new baby. Reportedly he tells one of his little friends that he wants to shoot his stepmom. Dad, why weren’t you paying attention here? Obviously, this kid wasn’t psychologically equipped to be owning, shooting, or keeping a firearm in his room!

My other question here is, can an 11-year old premeditate a murder? Children, at age 11, especially boys, can be very immature for their age. Is the ability to premeditate present yet? In the beginning, his dad says it was an accident.

There’s been tons of controversy surrounding this case because noone was really sure whether Brown should be tried as a child or an adult. Obviously, were he tried as a child, his sentence would be lighter than had he been tried as an adult.

Eventually, a judge ruled he should be tried as a juvenile. His reasons, if you look at update 4 over here make sense.

Apparently, none of the defense’s claims held up according to this judge, so if Brown is found guilty, he gets out of prison in 2018. Had he been tried as an adult, they’d have most likely nailed him with life in prison, no parole. It took 2 years for this child to be discertified as an adult, for a crime he was charged with at age 11.

It seems like much of this was because there are those who genuinely believe this kid didn’t do it, and that if he did, he’s a low-risk offender. How do we know that, though? We don’t. This kid committed a murder at age 11. He was only a child, with an underdeveloped sense of morality. Besides, how can you prove he didn’t do it? His prints are all over that gun, even if he did ditch the shell casing on the way to school. Assuming he’s guilty, there’s no real way of determining whether he’s a high or low-risk offender, because he was only 11 at the time and one is not fully developed at that age. I realize that the victim’s family wanted him tried as an adult, and with good reason, but I think the judge was right. You can’t try a 14-year-old kid as an adult for a crime he committed at age 11. The understanding of what he did, if he is guilty, wasn’t fully there at the time. He new what he was doing in the moment, but wasn’t aware of the consequences of his actions, as is the case with most children at age 11.

Kids at that age love to test buttons. I have a 12-year-old brother who seems to believe that because I’m treated like a child by my parents, he doesn’t have to do as I ask.

There’s no excuse for what this kid did if he’s found guilty, but as mentioned above, the parents should’ve been a little more emphatic about firearm safety and use. there is no reason that child should have had that gun in his room, left out in the open. The father is partially to blame, too. No reasonable adult lets a kid keep a gun in his bedroom. There’s no reason you couldn’t have purchased a safe with the weapon and given that to the child along with the gun.

I’ll agree he should be tried as a juvenile, I’ll agree he’s at fault if he’s found guilty. But Dad’s not receiving anything from the looks of it over here, for being an idiot. (Well ok so you can’t legally charge someone with being stupid)… But why isn’t the father receiving a legal slap on the wrist for letting the kid have the gun in his room unsupervised? I know he was supervising the instruction and use of the weapon outdors, but you can’t just hand a gun to a kid and say, “take this upstairs to your room.”

Why is that news article choosing this evening to roll across my desk?

Well ok. My floor. Since I don’t have a desk to speak of at this current time. . You know, because give it a few days and I won’t have a place to live. But we already went over that earlier. So let’s just um, go down here, use my limited web design skills, and learn about what happens when stupid people/organizations do stupid things.

So, there’s this dude. You know, the guy who wrote this thinggy over here.

That guy who wrote that thing up there that’s used for the social network which shall not be named of which I may or may not be a member, goes to Florida State University.

Well, Florida State’s math department, you see, has this nasty little habit. They like to force their blind students to use inaccessible software for math courses.

Well, this dude doesn’t like this very much. You se, he, ladies and gentlemen, is blind, in the event you didn’t read that thing over there in your other browser tab. So what did Florida State do that pissed him off enough to get the NFB involved? Well, to refresh your memories, and mine, because it’s half past holy crap o’clock in the morning and I haven’t even had dinner yett, let’s play a li’l game. One of my favorites. it’s called Peel and Stick. It works, kinda like this, wherein I take a piece of that article in that other tab of mine and go… Well, let’s see what they did, now, shall we?

The suit alleges that FSU’s Department of Mathematics discriminated against Mr. Toth
and Ms. Principato by failing to provide them with proper accommodations so that
they could successfully complete required math courses for their respective degree
programs. The violations include requiring the students to use an inaccessible Web-based
application to complete homework assignments, tests, and quizzes; requiring the use
of clickers that cannot be used by a blind person to respond to in-class questions
and obtain bonus credit; failing to provide Braille versions of the required textbooks
in violation of agreed-upon accommodation plans; and engaging in retaliatory actions
when the students complained of these violations. In all cases, faculty members
in the Department of Mathematics were generally uncooperative, unhelpful, and even
hostile, and did not provide meaningful alternative methods for Mr. Toth and Ms.
Principato to successfully complete the required courses. As a result, both students
are currently unable to continue their degree programs and find their careers indefinitely
on hold.

Who are you, FSU math department, to deny these two blind students an education? And who are you, FSU disability services, for allowing the math department to treat students who *you* are supposed to be assisting, so poorly? And don’t even get me started. Inevitably, some fucktard’s gonna waltz on in here and say disability services could have known nothing about it. I’m calling bullshit. I’m calling bullshit based on the fact that other students in other state universities all across the country get treated like this daily. But you know what? As long as the books look pretty, it doesn’t matter how students are treated. Because nobody who works for a state university actually gives a fuck about the students. No. All they care about is their form letters and their handbooks and their rules. as long as it looks good on paper, nobody actually cares! Nope, because as long as their reports look pretty for whomever the hell they report to, they can just carry on treating people like garbage and get away with it.

You can’t rightfully sit here and tell me Florida State didn’t know about the treatment these two students were receiving. (In fact, I wish I could grab the one I have on my mesenger and ask him what disability services actually did about the situation, but unfortunately, right now, I can’t seem to find him.) Um, well, it is 1:26 AM. You normal people that are lucky an that have everything, you’re sleeping right now, wile I’m scrounging for a place to live. yeah. Especially you lucky sighties, who have jobs. And you all sat at home, in your normal houses, with your normal families, this evening, and did normal things. While I bounced around the state with a backpack, a duffel, a cane and a person guiding me, trying to find a place to crash this evening that wasn’t gonna get a friend of mine from high school evicted from her apartment, you people, probably some of the very ones I’m currently being persecuted and treated like a criminal by, get to live your lives like nothing’s wrong. You get to sleep in your own bed, in your own house, while I worry about whether my next move is to court so I dont get put in a group home by my insane mother, or worse, end up under her guardianship, and living in my house for the rest of my pathetic, broken, useless life. Hope you’re proud of yourselves, because I would rather like to start planning ways of getting rid of myself so you all have nothing to worry about anymore. Yeah. remember how someone told me I should kill myself? Suicidal ideations. again. thanks assholes. Just how I wanted to spend an evening in an unfamiliar place. and I thought I was gonna get away with not being a medicated zombie for the rest of my life? Well, guess I’m quite sure who to thank for that.

That’s… precisely how you do your job. Except for, like, how it ain’t?

Yarfing all over the blog again to prevent me using something as a projectile that I shouldn’t. Screen readers, wanna skip it? H to jump to the next heading is your happyfriend, sighties, use those mice like they were intended.

I have officially hit the point where “I can’t fucking take it any fucking more,” writes, publishes, and sells the book on exactly how I feel right now. You, person, can sit there and lah lah lah, I’m nooooot liiiiiiistening, while I complain for months and months and months, on end, about mold. Filth. Dirty living conditions. Disrespectful treatment of my family. Ok, maybe sometimes my mother deserves it. But my grandmother didn’t deserve to have a spray bottle yanked out of her hand last year, nor did she deserve to be screamed and yelled at by the student who was my roommate at that time.

Nobody deserves to be ignored when your job is to help them. Nobody deserves to sit there in the middle of February, freezing their tits off in the middle of the night, while you sleep at home in your nice cozy warm bed. Why was I freezing in the middle of the night in mid February? Because the mold smell in my room was so awful that I had to keep the window open 24/7 just so I didn’t throw up! But as long as you’re happy, nobody else has to be happy, right? Obviously, that’s how certain people think. I’m not saying anymore here, because I fear for my personal safety and mental health. I honestly thought briefly about checkin’ myself into a hospital and gettin’ some downers shoved down my face. Only reason I didn’t do it was because it’d get people involved who didn’t need to be involved and hopefully won’t need to. I’m sick of discrimination. I’m sick of favoritism. I’m sick of ass-covering, and I’m sick of people simply NOT DOING THEIR BLOODY JOBS! No. I can’t take it anymore. We thank Shane for not allowing me alcohol this evening because if I had my choice, I’d go get stupidly drunk, induce alcohol poisoning because I have no tolerance, and end myself up in the hospital. We also thank my friend Minh for allowing me to crash on her spare bed. We don’t thank certain officials for putting me in a precarious position. I lived in a precarious position all summer long. I didn’t really wanna have to live in a mentally unhealthy unstable environment for the rest of my life. Thanks, people, you’ve ruined me.

But no, you don’t care. Of course you don’t care. Especially certain individuals who can sit on their couch and eat ice cream while a blind student lives in an unhealthy, unsafe environment, and the people who are supposed to help her aren’t doing anything about it. You had plenty of opportunities. Is it simply the fact that you hate me because I needed your help? Do you not like your job? Are you that unhappy in your career that you won’t help someone who’s getting urinary tract infections because her roommate’s living habits are causing them? I believe you are. And I will be bringing that up at my earliest opportunity. You had all the opportunity in the world last year to prove you were on my side. Obviously, you weren’t. That, is called favoritism. You let someone else make me sick while you plugged your ears, turned away from me, and pretended I didn’t exist! You didn’t care! And now that someone called you out on it, all of a sudden, you want me as far out of your face as you can get me. Because to you, as long as it looks like you’re doing your job on the books, and you’re getting paid for it, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing or how other people feel.

Oh god no. This place? Care? About their disabled students? Oh, I’m sorry, that’s too much work. You might have to pay someone to breathe instead of filling the positions with robots who are preprogrammed for only certain functions. I…dude…I’m simply at the point where I’m done giving a shit. The simple fact is that nobody cares. Nobody wants to help. It’s too much work. I’m too much work. if you couldn’t help me, who was supposed to? You were supposed to be the person who walked in and told her, “Enough is enough!” But you didn’t. You failed me. You failed me once and now you’re failing me again. My opinion of you is that you’re a malicious, malevolent and disgraceful human being who doesn’t actually care about his/her job. And you know what? I’m entitled to that opinion. I’m entitled to sit in this train station and write down what I think of you, because surely it’s better than drinking myself to death and ending up in the hospital.

I shouldn’t actively be thinking about getting drunk. Alcoholism runs in my family. My grandfather still struggles with it. I also shouldn’t be contemplating ways to sleep outside safely tonight because my friend’s building manager isn’t thrilled with me crashing with her. I can’t go home. I can’t go home because if I go home I’m going to end up locked in a mental institution because my mother is of the opinion that I belong in a group home or something or under her legal guardianship, which obviously I don’t.

I also thought I’d let ya know that I’ll be doing a mass cleanup of my social media the minute I hit a place where I have net access, as the MBTA car I’m currently sitting in…well…there wifi works about as well as my eyes. Which is to say, um, how bout not at all? things, are leaking. Things, are leaking, that should not, be leaking. And I’m gonna plug that leak if it’s the last damn thing I do on this earth. Noone. Has any right. To be digging into my locked shit, nor does anyone have the right to tell me that I should kill myself.

Yes, it happened. Someone told me I should end my life. Not a joke. I’m still breathing, I’m sitting in this car next to Shane right now because a frigging cat saved my life in 2003. Yes, you heard me, I said it publicly. Someone who will remain nameless told me I should kill myself. then, that same human being told me I should pretty much be locked away in a mental institution. Is that what people want? Would it make everyone happier if I just ended my life or got put away somewhere so I could never be a bother to anyone again? I know there are certain individuals who would be happier that way and the only reason they don’t get what they want, well, he’s sitting to my right, if you must know. Yeah, you saw that. I said it here. The reason I won’t end my otherwise miserable existence is because someone got through to my hard ass head that I was actually worth a shit.

Where were you?

So as you may or may not be aware, in the event you’re living under a rock, Shane showed up here on Thursday. Not even an hour after he showed up, came a knock on the door. It was the building director, reminding me of the guest policies and threatening me with academic sanctions, and basically doing her best to make me feel about the size and worth of an amoeba. I yessed her to death for the purposes of getting her the fuck out of my face before I slapped her because I was already prepping for battle because I had afeeling stupid shit was gonna go down. And well, it did.

Then, I remembered last year’s continuous saga of the stupid. My questions for this woman, because I hope to Christ she finds this somehow, are as follows.
Where were you while I was living in filth all year?
Where were you while I sat there in a room which stunk of mold, with someone else’s belongings strewn all over what should have been my side of the room?
Where were you while I sat in health services wondering how the fuck I could’ve gotten a urinary tract infection when I was being a two-shower-a-day clean freak, living with someone who didn’t shower, or even perform the common courtesy of emptying her fridge?
Where were you while I had someone come in and take pictures of the room to make sure I didn’t get dingged hundreds in damages because I lived with someone who didn’t give a rancid shit about personal space?
Where were you when all those complaints were lodged?
Where were you when I was sitting up till 2 and 3 in the morning listening to this girl sob and scream and cry to her boyfriend because he was telling her the truth and she didn’t wanna hear it?
Where were you when I was sick every other week because I had to keep the window open in the middle of February just so I could try and scrounge up some breatheable air?
Where were you when I was washing the same load of laundry twice just to try and make it smell less like rotten mold?
What did you ever do for me when I actually needed you? Nothing. And now you’re threatening me with academic sanctions because I have someone here who actually gives a fuck trying to help me?
Lady, you may be marrie to the rules, I understand that may be the only gratification you get, but you never did anything for me when I actually needed you, so why should you bother with me now?

That’s exactly how you promote accessibility and uphold the law in hamilton. really, it is.

Thanks to a contact on MSN, we have tonight’s stupidity.
this time it come’s from hamilton, and it’s HSR’s
apparent lack of hiring compitent drivers
My comments follow the article.

Mo ther, worker want HSR to apologize to boy in wheelchair

Peach Festival transit pitfalls Dan Provan, 7, with respite workers John Moning, left, Coleen Plate, centre, and his mother Robin. He had trouble riding on a bus to the Peach Festival.
John Rennison/The Hamilton Spectator

Daniel Provan is a seven-year-old with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is non-verbal. The Our Lady of Lourdes student was born seven weeks early with brain damage and is wheelchair-bound. But he was allegedly denied access to the designated wheelchair space on a Hamilton Street Railway bus.

His mother, Robin, wants an apology from the HSR after her son was made to get on and off the bus without a ramp.

Daniel and his educational assistant, John Moning, set out for the Winona Peach Festival early Friday evening and waited in a long lineup for the free shuttle service at Eastgate Square.

When the bus arrived, the driver did not open the back door, where passengers in wheelchairs usually enter, Moning said. So the EA took the boy to the front.

Once on the crowded bus, Moning said he asked the driver twice to have people occupying the wheelchair seating area move back. He was ignored both times, with the driver finally asking: “Where would you like these people to go?”

Moning ended up having to put the brakes down on Daniel’s wheelchair, behind the yellow line. When they arrived at the Winona festival, the ramp was not lowered for them.

On the return trip from the festival, another bus driver closed the back door before they got out and told them to exit from the front, Moning said, adding the driver had already stepped outside the vehicle to drink a coffee at that point.

Moning told the driver Daniel needed a ramp, but the driver said: “It’s OK. Just back him up, he’ll be fine.”

Moning and a secondary EA, Coleen Plate, ended up lowering Daniel from the bus without the ramp, after Moning had asked the driver three times to lower it.

The city’s public works department spokesperson Kelly Anderson said the director of transit, Don Hull, is assessing the situation to gather more information about the incident.

Daniel’s mother, Robin, sent an email Friday night to Mayor Bob Bratina, who replied Sunday, saying he would ask his staff to “review and comment.”

“I demand an apology. I think Daniel deserves one,” the 43-year-old said. “He didn’t ask to be disabled.”

Robin, who works for the city’s community services department, said this incident shows her that there is still a lot of “ignorance and intolerance” against people with disabilities in Hamilton.

“It was such a shock, such a slap in the face,” the 43-year-old said. “It’s unfortunate that other workers in the city … could treat another human being so shabbily.”

Similar incidents with HSR have happened before during Moning’s outings with Daniel, with whom he has been working for more than a year, but the EA never made a big deal out of it. “They might be having a bad day, whatever.”

But Friday’s events “ticked (him) right off” because it counteracted progress the city has made around accessibility awareness, he said. “Stuff like this happens and you’re going back 10 feet again.”

Moning said he wants to see HSR staff undergo more sensitivity training around the accessibility policies set out by the province.

“(I want) a public apology saying: That never should have happened.”

Having lived in hamilton, I know what the rules and regulations are regarding this type of situation, and for a city that’s screamed accessibility for years, to allow this, and their only response is their looking into it?
If I were their, both drivers would be suspended without pay for at least 30 days pending a complete investigation, and either forced to undertake serious retraining or lose their jobs, entirely.
You are required by law to secure wheelchairs, and I’ve been on those buses. Nobodey moves to the back, nobody gives a shit.
Packed or not, if their is a wheelchair, the people in designated spots are to be told to move and the chair properly secured in the designated area.
As for the ramp?
That’s again, another form of blatent not giving a crap about the safety of the passenger(s).
If the child or the PSA’s had been hurt? It would be HSR’s neglogince that caused it and hell would be raised.
I feel both drivers shold be removed from their jobs, and a public apology from the drivers in question and from HSR as a whole shold be given to the child and workers who were put in a dangerous situation, and could have died that night because of the driver(s) negligence.

I know some of you are gonna wine that it’s a disability, who gives a fuck, but if you were in that situation, I don’t think you would be saying that, so just keep your mouths shut.

If this had happened here in Ottawa? the city, right alongside the people who live here, those drivers would be removed from the road and a full investigation would come out of it and their wouldn’t just be some lame ass form letter from the city and the mayor saying it was being looked into.

With that, I’m outta here!

Hicks and computers do not mix. I am living proof.

My brain officially aches. I have had the…what, almost 2 weeks? From hell. Naturally, this computer was the cause of it.

I woke up on the morning of the 5th to one hell of a mess. I restarted the machine, got tossed into a never-ending boot loop. I swore in all kinds of pretty and colorful ways, then I called Shane and explained the problem because at 7 PM on a Sunday evening when I finally got around to it, Lenovo technical support were the last people I wanted to talk to. His theory: My Windows install’s trashed. Well…Shit,

My next course of action, grab the 12-year old. “Here. Read this.”

“But why?”

“Because I asked you to, and this computer’s on crack. Now, read.”

So the child manages with my help to get Windows installed, but no drivers, because, well, going to hunt for those required an Ethernet cable that we didn’t have. So my mother gets it in her head that she’s gonna take it to our local fixit shop and they’re gonna wave their magic wand and make it all better. Yeah ok, smoke some more of that why don’t ya?

She takes the machine in on friday, the 12th, after loudly and screamily insisting that she could take it in by herself and me loudly and screamily insisting that no, I was going with her, it was my machine and she didn’t have to use it, I did. I didn’t care if she paid for repairs, but I wanted to speak to the person(s) fixing it. So grudgingly she took me with her, I suppose because I’m the only one who knew where my personal Windows CD was and well, they asked her to take it in with the machine.

So I walk in, described to the guy what the underlying issue was, what I did to fix it. Now I knew this guy was 1. an arrogant prick and 2. a stupid son of a bitch, because he’s standing in front of me saying he likes Lenovo, and that’s just not something you say to me after I get 2 phone calls within 3 months of each other saying that other students’ exact makes and models, same machine, had literally began smoking, in their faces. (Hi dead power supply nice to see you.)

So I tell the first dude, “We’re bringing this in for a software issue, but I want the hardware looked at too. I’ve suspected a dying hard drive since June.”

I get it back Friday night, hey, cool, it’s working, and they said the hard drive wasn’t dead. I wake up Saturday morning to discover I’m jammed in another endless boot loop! The word of the morning, at top volume, was “Son of a bitch!”

I leave for my grandparents’ place that day because I’m staring at this thing and I can’t fucking take it anymore. I was ready to overdraft my bank account and rush order myself a netbook even though I hate them on principle just because I needed a working computer, and my mother had just pissed $120 into this thing, having the Windows install fixed and putting a 2GB stick of ram in it. All I’d done the previous night was uninstall Open Office and VLC Media Player, which are two programs that are completely fucking useless with a Windows screen reader, and the next morning I wake up and it’s boot looping again.

So Tuesday, Mom drags it back down to the shop. The second ass-clown who worked on it was at least not a complete ass-clown, as he did discover the dead hard drive right away, even though his buddy over there swore to god that Lenovo hardware never failed, but now we have this other issue.

“Oh, she screwed up the hard drive by uninstalling software.”

What? What? As in, the fuck? Which is to say, are they smoking? Also, what kind of drugs are in the water over there? Uninstaling a piece of software should not fuck up the hard drive, unless the hard drive was already fucked over in the first place, which means that *somebody*, ain’t doin’ their job!

I blow up Shane’s phone again, and drop this cute little tidbit of bullshit on his desk. Naturally, he’s about as pleased as I am, but he’s got the net, he’s got a working computer and can do more than I could at the time. He busts out google, does a reverse lookup of their phone number which I had somehow managed to beg borrow and steal. Then, the Better Business Bureau gets involved.

I didn’t do it. During Shane’s conversation with whomever he spoke to over there, we found out that these twerps were operating under expired credentials. So not only were they doing this, but they were sticking inaccessible software on a disabled person’s computer, blaming said person’s removal of the software for their incompetence, then telling said person not to remove said software. Reportedly, someone from the state of Massachusetts paid them a visit yesterday evening. If we find out more, we’ll let you know.

So. that’s been, what, my last, 2 weeks? Freaking out over a broken computer, dealing with incompetent tools, freaking out because it’s broken a second time, sending it in, then finding out the retards who were supposed to have fixed it the first time blamed me for screwing it up, and finding that they were operating a repair business with expired credentials! And on top of all this, I start classes in 2 weeks! I almost didn’t have a working computer for college. Can we say heart attack? Can we say nervous breakdown? I can!

A note to the stupid

First, we start with the internal stupid.
1. Pitting everyone against each other and causing a major bitchfest, is NOT how you get your way.
2. Sitting on the computer all day, unshowered and in your pajamas, at the age of 12 is wrong. What the fuck are you thinking? Wait…Why do I need to ask that when I know you’re not?
3. Additionally, again. At 12, you should be DOING SOMETHING. Not sitting there telling me you’re too lazy to take a shower.
4. Yes, I did bitch you out, and yes, your father agrees with me, or he would’ve bitched at me when I went to go do morning meds.
(He didn’t. He was completely fine with me and recognizes this as an attempt to pit everyone against each other and have them fighting for this child’s amusement.)

Onward to the external stupid.
1. As the blog’s disclaimer says, “You have the ability to not read this blog, please exercise that right. That simple.”
2. Let me translate that for you in even plainer English than Shane did. “If you don’t like what someone has to say here, kindly do us the favor of getting lost.”
3. Additionally, if you don’t like something here, please have the testicular fortitude to tell us, and tell us who you are. One thing we hate here are anonymous comments, which get automatically heaved into the spam folder, but even worse, we hate it when people circumvent blog policy.

4. Noone who comments has the right to tell us how to run the blog, or how we can comment. I’ll say it again. “You have the ability not to read this blog, please exercise that right.”
5. Not doing the above automatically revokes your bitching license. Please be advised of this in future.

Assistant admin and co-writer needs a 2-liter of Mountain Dew, some lunch, and a week off from the stupid.

you actually went along with this? You stupid, stupid moron!

Their are times when I ask myself what the hell is up with people in the world.
You actually
put your service dog
in the back of a taxi cab?
Here’s the article, then my own comments will follow.

Service Dog Forced To Ride In Taxi Trunk
Blind Woman Says Driver Gave Her Ultimatum
Marc Stewart, 7News Reporter

POSTED: 8:38 pm MDT June 6, 2011
UPDATED: 2:10 pm MDT June 7, 2011

DENVER — A blind woman says a driver told her she would have to put her guide dog in the trunk of his taxi if she wanted a ride.

Judie Brown says her black lab named Alberto isn’t just a best friend; he’s been her lifeline for the past four years.

“If something happened to him. I would just die,” said Brown.

About a month ago, Brown called a cab.

When she walked out front with Alberto, the driver from Union Taxi initially refused to transport her with Alberto.

“He said, ‘No dog in my cab,’ ” said Brown.

Brown said the driver told her he was allergic to dogs and would only drive her if Alberto went in the back of his cab.

“I asked him, ‘Where in the back?’ And he said, ‘In the trunk,’ ” said Brown.

Late for an appointment, she reluctantly agreed.

“I never hear my dog whine or cry. Ever. Ever. I knew it was terribly wrong,” said Brown.

Colorado law protects guide dogs and their owners, allowing them to ride together in taxis.

“A service dog is an appliance, similar to a wheelchair. Would you deny them a wheelchair?” said animal law expert Jay Swearingen.

A manager with Union Taxi tells 7NEWS the driver has been suspended and fined by the state.

But Judie is scarred and says she’s been afraid to travel with Alberto ever since.

“I’ve lost my independence. And I do not like it. It makes me angry. And I want it back,” said Brown.

The National Guide Dog Association says they get similar calls, three to 10 times per week.

Regardless of weather you were late for an appointment or not, if said taxi cab driver refuses to transport you make said taxi driver get lost, call your appointment tell them you’ll be late, and make alternate arrangements.
Their was no reason for this service animal to be placed in the trunk of a car.
This is as much her fault as the drivers fault.
The driver got suspended, great, but this individual, should lose her service animal, and never be allowed another one.
Comment away.
Let’s see the discussion roll.

FSU disability services, what, exactly, are you hiding in there?

We all know Fitchburg State University is the bane of my existence. We know that they leave me beating my head against ]whatever available object on a regular basis. So, for the past few months, Shane has been trying to help me deal with their various levels of stupidity in whichever department decides to play Let’s Piss Krista Off on any given day. Shane is listed on my file as an alternate trainer, which means if fitchburg State University takes it into their head to fuck up somehow, he has various levels of verbal and written permission from me to assist me in jumping their shit. All that’s usually needed from me is an email to whomever, saying, “This is who he is, yes he has permission to speak to you and vice versa, now play hnice.” Ok, so it’s not worded that way, but it’s implied.

I’ve done this with several departments, up to and including maintenance, housing, and the dean’s office themselves, and I believe financial aid once too. I’ve been trying to do it with disability services for months. Obviously if you’re reading this you read the nastygram from disability services I posted about a week and a half ago, wherein the attitude is basically, “I don’t know who this Shane is but…”

My first question is, what kind of professionalism is that? Next, I ask, why isn’t the director of disability services herself asking me these questions? That email came from the woman who was the *interim* director, until the secretary got hired as the director somewhere between the end of last Spring and the beginning of fall semester. Yeah. You heard me. The secretary. Who, before she was hired, probably didn’t even know how to spit braille out of the computer and hope it was right. Instead of hiring someone who knew shit from shine-ola, Fitchburg State decided to give someone a salary boost. Great job, guys.

I got to thinking about it Friday night while shane and I were taking a few minutes to have a look at next semester’s schedule. (Yeah, I know. We prepare for stupid early.) It maybe took a while, but it registered in my head that every department we’ve dealt with has no problem dealing with an alternate trainer. Except, you guessed it, disability services. So my question now becomes, exactly what the hell are they hiding in that office that would bag them if, say, a licensed professional got his paws on it? If the dean’s office will speak to him, no problem, but refuses to speak to, say, one of my family members, namely my grandmother, then, yes, I understand. That office is doing something right. The director of housing has told him straight, “If there are any issues next year, and she contacts you, you contact me directly.” So obviously the director of housing has nothing to hide, nor does the maintenance department or the dean’s office.

Disability services’ open hostility toward him though, leads me to believe there’s definitely something in there that they don’t want someone with the appropriate authority to know about. We know it’s bad in there, we know they’re clueless. Hint: They’re using a standard JFW license instead of one that’s designed for lab use. Also, they only have jaws licensed on one machine, and there are 2 blind students at the university. Further, they’re using Jaws 11, Microsoft 2010, and Windows 7, which is a match made in hell. All they need to do is call I.t. and have them come in and upgrade. Shane and I made sure there was an SMA attached to that license and that the keys were reset so that it could be used on another computer in that lab. Hint 2: Shane should not have to rescan my books for me after they hand me an image PDF that I’m supposed to use as my textbook all semester. I ask for accessible documents, and I don’t get them. Instead, I have to send Shane pdf’s and he has to rescan the entire book, sometimes taking hours out of his day, to make sure I have what I need. And yes, now it’s public knowledge. Yes, I did just say that on the blog. No, there’s really nothing anyone can do to me for telling the truth. The other thing I have to wonder about in the back of my head is, does the Massachusetts Commission for the blind have any clue about the state of this university’s supposed disability services department? If they did, would they be paying for two, potentially three, students to attend the university? Just some things to think about. Thoughts? Comments? Anybody?

they called that making sense?

Hey all;
So while plowing that thing that is twitter. I ran across
this article
That attempts to make light of why
microsoft
Bought
skype
For the wapping sum of 8.5 million dollars.
Reading that article, right near the end, it states

Skype doesn’t signal a big change in Microsoft’s M&A strategy either. The
company will continue to focus on the small acquisitions that it has in the
past — it really likes to find smaller bits of technology to “tuck in” to
existing products.

But as the Skype deal shows, it’s not afraid of bigger buys where they seem
to make sense.

How does purchasing skype

Make sense

Anyhow?
Someone explain?
I’ve been using skype since it’s 0.x days, and yeah it’s had it’s ups and
downs, but come on, in my opinion, microsoft, you don’t need it!

FSU: (fmeeping) stupid university? Yes, actually, it is, thank you for asking.

The last 4 days have been nothing but a fuck shit stack, with one quick break yesterday that lasted oh, an hour, maybe two? I’ll preface this by stating the obvious. I absolutely despise Fitchburg State University. Nope, not gonna lie. In fact if I still had this perspective legally blind freshman’s email anywhere in my files I’d email her from my personal account and tell her straight not to waste the state’s, or her parents’, money by coming to this hellhole. Someone decided on Monday they didn’t like my attitude. That’d be ok, if they, oh, I don’t know, *SAID SOMETHING TO ME ABOUT IT LIKE AN ADULT?* But nah. They bitch to disability services. Disability services bitches at me. Whatever. That’s over with. I refuse to deal with the individuals in question for a couple days because I was done with being treated differently and I damn near almost quit school right then and there. This causes a minor inconvenience to me, of course, but it’s not like I care, because in my mind I’d rather be inconvenienced than treated like an infant. So, whatever. Tuesday managed to go over without any kerfuckles, mainly because I stayed out of sight and literally only left my room to go to class, to the bathroom, and stepped outside once to pay a delivery guy. So yesterday I woke up feeling sort of like I’d been run over by a large vehicle. Ok, endocrine system, I get it, you suck, you hate me, stop telling me about it. this was quickly squelched with ibuprofen. Everything started out pretty nifty yesterday. I was all happy because Shane had thrown random surprises at me because he could, so I was bouncebouncebounce-ing off the walls for a good 3 hours or so. I sit down to do some homework and Blackboard decides it’d be nifty to pitch a major fit that included me metaphorically pounding my head against it for a good 3 more hours or so before all was said and done. I got out of my night class a whole hour and 15 minutes early, so everything was nifty. Nothing could go to hell from here, right? Of course it can! I walk back into the room… *sniff sniff, “Oh my god, what the fuck is that god awful smell?”* Sit back down and return to TeamTalk, because I’d left shane hangin’ there till I returned to class.

“I’m back, and something fucking stinks in here. A fucking gain.”

“Really? Like what this time?”

“Bad food again, I’m almost sure of it. I remember this particular brand of nasty from last time.”

So a few people walk in to visit the roommate, and I corner them and ask them if they think it smells in here. They of course answer yes, and the roommate tries to blame her boyfriend’s feet. It definitely was not foot odor. It was some kind of food product gone bad. Again. Keep in mind this is the same girl who left eggs in her fridge to rot for 6 weeks, had no clue, and tried to blame Shane, and say that he was unclean and didn’t shower. When that didn’t work she tried to say it was my rugs that stunk. Naturally this didn’t work too well for her either because I had someone come independently verify that there was nothing wrong with the rugs. This went on for 6 weeks, until we got back from spring break and she on a whim decides to clean out her fridge. Sure enough, rotten eggs, rotten food.

I complained to housing, who complained to disability services, nothing got done. Keep in mind this is after Shane and I complained to one of the RA’s while he was here that her belongings, which are spewing onto my side of the room, are creating a tripping hazard. So nothing gets done. Finally Shane busts the flip-a-shit-ometer last night, leaves a very pointed voicemail with the appropriate individuals that the room, once again, is smelly, nasty and disgusting. Little did I realize that he also had pictures that he took when he was here of the disaster that is this room. By this point, Shane’s boss has probably tanked the flip-a-shit-ometer himself. He’s followed us up through this whole disaster. I kinda feel bad for the poor dude, just another poor person that has to deal with this place and it’s rampant stupidity. But of course it doesn’t stop there. That’d be too damn easy. Because apparently somebody’s decided I’m responsible, 14 hours before a test, for them having the appropriate test materials and knowing how to use them. By this time all I wanna do is either strangle somebody or go to bed, which I don’t get to do until 2 AM because somebody decided that staying up till such time with the light on was the order of the day. So I get up this morning and I’m already apprehensive about dealing with disability services. They seem to have this inherent issue wherein, because I am reasonably competent with a computer, I’m supposed to be a walking, talking quick reference guide for any person who uses a screen reader who happens to need help. I stuff my face, I caffeinate, (twice mind you), and head over there. Our stats professor is literally loading the materials, which I had previously taken 15 extra minutes to go rechase and recompile onto a thumb drive for myself, (yes it did take that long, this computer’s a pain in the ass), onto the desktop, of the computer at disability services. I wanted to pound my head against the wall, but decided that sighing and rolling my eyes was a safer reaction and wouldn’t get me taken away in a straightjacket. Since when is it the professor’s responsibility to load the extra test materials onto the computer for us? And frankly, since when is it my responsibility to do Jaws training that I’m not certified, or paid, to do? A quick question here or there, I don’t mind. But a few short hours before a test, the individual in question should have already looked at, and figured out, the material days ago. I’m not a certified trainer, I’m not a notetaker, and I’m not getting paid to do either. So disability services, kindly stop expecting me to do those things. Shane left a very pointed voicemail with them about that, too.

I get out of my test, come back here, and find this wonderful email. You know, I was going to summarize it, but I think I’ll just press some buttons instead. and after that I think I’ll press another button or 3 and show you my response. So here we go.

Hi Krista,
I was speaking with Cindy Hebert today and brought up the fact that you were working with a new counselor named Shane. Cindy let me know that you are in fact still working with her and that to her knowledge there is not a counselor at MCB named Shane. I am not sure who this Shane is that continues to call on your behalf, but I can no longer accept phone calls from him. Because of confidentiality I cannot speak to anyone that I do not have a waiver to speak with.
Thank you,
Julie.

Please keep in mind that I’d had quite enough of disability services’ crap this week already, and had Shane been on the grid I would’ve just whipped the message at his head before reading it. I almost quit on Monday, that’s how angry I was. Related sidenote: I am not 3. I do not need a straw put in my drink, especially if you’re not wearing gloves to do it. Anyway, my main bullshit filter was off the grid so I kinda borrowed James and he became my backup bullshit filter. Trust me, you didn’t want me to read the content of that message directly after a stats test while I was undercaffeinated. Some poor innocent fool may have died as a result. So at around 3:30 this afternoon, it was on. I tried to call her back, got one of the secretaries, said fmeep this noise, I want this in writing. And write, I did. More like beat over the head with a clue by 4, but my strengths are not with speaking, but with calculated writing. I cannot think fast enough to verbalize all I had to say here while processing being spoken to, so email was my happyfriend.

Hi Julie,
Re: my alternate trainer, no, he does not work directly for or with
MCB. He is not being paid by them. He is not taking over Cindy’s job.
He is not a counselor, but an alternate trainer. Cindy Hebert is the
counselor, which essentially means she’s the one who pays the bills. I
send her my grades, MCB does their part. The alternate trainer is
there for the more day-to-day issues, (i.e., the fact that my laptop
charger has managed to die an hour before I finish this email), or, my
living environment is smelly and disgusting and it’s not my side of
the room because my side’s spotless and free of garbage. A similar
issue arose in February, and I later found out that the offending
party had eggs in her fridge for 6 weeks and they’d gone bad.) That
having been said, he does have my permission to contact you, and you
do have my permission to speak with him. If you need an official
looking piece of paper that says as much, one can be created upon
request.
Thank you for your time,
Krista

Needless to say, people have been, and will be, squished. You know what really pisses me off about this though? I can complain, whine, bitch, persist, irritate, annoy, advocate, generally jump down people’s throats while I’m living in a hazardous environment, and nobody does anything to help me. The moment someone whines to disability services that I took attitude with them, I get a slap on the wrist, and am basically told, “Bad child, go to your corner.” So I’m not allowed to be an imperfect human being and snap at somebody for treating me like an infant, yet it’s ok for my roommate, their workstudy student, to leave rotten eggs in her fridge and take over my side of the room. Can we say discrimination? Do we need to have another vocabulary lesson, children? I should hope not.

Petty Thievery, much?

Some tweets from this morning hit my radar almost 19 hours later, and I feel I need to say something publicly. Over the past few months, Christopher Toth has developed and distributed Hope, a third-party application that allows a Windows user using a screen reader to access the popular Pandora service. He charges $10 US for the program, which, considering he’s a student and is doing this in his spare time, is pretty damn fair. it’s even more so when before he stepped in, this demographic was unable to use Pandora unless they also used a Mac, or an iPod Touch or iPhone. anyone who doesn’t already own one will tell you that spending upwards of $200, so they may have access to Pandora via an iDevice, though it has many other uses, is out of their budget. I’m in a constant state of broke. I get broke, I live broke, I freakin’ electrical taped my laptop charger so I wouldn’t have to blow approximately $100 on a new one. Now, let’s be honest. You may not like the developer. You and he may have had a history in the past, you pissed each other off, had a fucking teenybopper snit, whatever. Maybe you have a hair across your ass because he told you to, oh my god, read the Qwitter Readme, (which, by the way, is common sense. Download software, read the documentation). But there is no excuse as to why you cannot pull $10 out of your tight asses, to buy this program. If I did it, anybody can. Maybe the registration scheme isn’t the niftiest, most awesome and most secure thing ever, yet. I get it. But there’s no reason to be a tool and steal a $10 piece of software. If you’re that much of a spoiled brat and need everything handed to you that badly, then you have some serious entitlement issues.

Yes, I’ve punked (legal) copies of software off Shane before. Four pieces of software on this machine are legally registered to him. They’re either there because I’ll need them eventually, because I needed them on the *BOUNCE*, meaning, I couldn’t wait any longer for the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind to stop scratching their asses long enough to actually do their jobs, because they were put here to help fix the broken that is this computer, or, in one case, because shane thought one particular piece of software would make this thing work a little less like a brick than the other. Also, as some of you know, I share a dropbox with shane. Why? Because he has tons of space and said I could share. The difference, folks, is that most everything he gave me, if not all of it, is way the hell out of my price range! However, everything on here that is his, is legally registered to him, and he knows I have it, because in 3 out of 4 cases, he’s slapped the software on this machine himself. In his words, per my conversation with him as I write, “You have my permission to use it, the company *is* aware that it’s on your system. As I was using your system for a time, and felt it wasn’t to anyone’s bennifit to clean up after myself, you still have access to that software.” In other words, it’s legal, shut up, keep it, and like it. also re: The one thing he didn’t put on here himself that he handed me from 400 miles away, it became a matter of, I need this, because if the university’s networking policies eventually force me to make a certain upgrade, certain stuff of mine will be out of date and quite useless. We made the decision that him handing me a particular authorization for a piece of software was, for now, the best way to put a BandAid on the issue. What else was I going to do, learn a new screen reader in 2 days? Pull money out of my ass? Wait for a moneytree to appear? How about not? Now, if it were $10 software, I could simply go and buy it. However, there are certain pieces of software that cost more than both my parents make in a week put together. if somebody hands me a legal license, because I need that software, I won’t be kickin’ a gift horse in the ass. I will, as Shane’s fond of jokingly telling me to do when he does something major to help me out, “shut up and like it.” But people. Seriously. Hope’s a $10 piece of software. I’ve probably spent $10 in the last 2 weeks on caffeine alone. the developer may not be your favorite person, but that’s no excuse to publicly ask for a free copy of his software on Twitter. Would you like someone to do the same to you? Think about it. A little common sense and courtesy might get some of you a little farther in life.

attempting to ram religion down blind peoples throats isn’t how you sell a product.

so as a long time tech geek, I have this bad habbit of keeping up with firmware upgrades for the various blind products,
pacmate
braillenote family of products
and the
braille sense family of products
once distributed by
GWMicro
now sold and distributed by their manufacturer
hims INC.
It’s come to my attention that the braille sense plus has a knew firmware upgrade coming out or that’s already out, ok, that’s special, great, spantacular. Except for one major off pissing issue.
This firmware, will have burnt into the rom, five, yes five, different versions of the bible.
I see a few issues with this
List time, you know how this rolls.

  • not everyone’s freakin’ religious, stop trying to ram it down our throats.
  • noting the item above, if I wanna freakin’ remove it, give me the ability to for christ sakes.
  • Actually, here’s a better idea, during the upgrade, give us the option, we want it, grate, let us pick a version, or all five if the person wants it. Don’t want it? Don’t install it for peet sakes!

People have religion, believe in god, are cathlic, whatever. I’m not knocking that, what I’m freakin’ knocking is this freakin companies ramming religion by burning 5 different bibles into your note takers rom, without your consent, and their being no way to remove it or know way to tell the updater, thanks, but no thanks, I *don’t* want this.
Ok, if you *must* install it, stick it in flash, as files, so they can be deleted!
So me getting a braille sense plus?
Not after I read that.
Comment away.
Let’s see what this sparks. This should be interesting.

This comes in light of a phone call myself and james received after speaking to the cornwall office of the ontario disability support program.

leave this shit to the parents:, please?

Yeah ok, I had foster parents that rocked, and still rock, to this day, and tauight me the fine art of who the fuck cares about a person’s sexual orientation, race, etc.

add
it to the school learning experience with survey’s., asking those as young as 11, if their gay, and if I’m reading this correctly, these survey’s will impact their education.
If I read it wrong, hey, speak up.
My thoughts are this, please do be leaving the right and wrong teaching to the parents, for one simple reason.
The child(s) are going to here about racist crap from the larger world, and it’s the parents, not the school’s, responsibility to teach their kids right from wrong/

From the article, I agree with this part.

does this fool run around without his cane? come on, your blind, yes. you should be indipendant, damn right, but quit acting like a sighted person when your not one!

CRTC will rescind ‘unlimited use’ Internet decision – or Ottawa will overturn it
STEVEN CHASE
OTTAWA— From Thursday’s Globe and Mail
Published Wednesday, Feb. 02, 2011 10:17PM EST
Last updated Wednesday, Feb. 02, 2011 10:59PM EST
The Harper government will overturn the CRTC’s decision that effectively ends “unlimited use” Internet plans if the regulator doesn’t rescind the decision itself.
Industry Minister Tony Clement made the surprise announcement late Wednesday night via his closely-followed Twitter account.
He confirmed reports by The Globe and Mail and other media that the Tories were prepared to take this step.
“True. CRTC must go back to drawing board,” he tweeted after being asked if it was true the government would act “if the CRTC does not back down.”

Given this ultimatum from the Tories, the options facing the independent regulator are to reconsider the ruling of its own volition or see the cabinet use its power to reverse it.

The Harper government has taken a keen interest in the CRTC ruling that’s sparked a massive consumer backlash and caught the attention of all political parties in Ottawa.

Mr. Harper has personally intervened on the file to signal his displeasure this week.

If the Harper government is forced to act, it would mean that independent Internet service providers would not be forced to switch to per-byte billing from “unlimited access” accounts.

It would also not prevent the big Internet providers from continuing to use metered billing as they have for years.

But the fact that smaller providers could offer unlimited accounts has likely acted as a competitive check on the market and helped keep prices from rising.

Earlier Wednesday night, Mr. Clement turned up the heat on CRTC chair Konrad von Finckenstein on the eve of the regulator’s Commons committee grilling over the decision.

The minister used his closely followed Twitter account to broadcast his unease about the ruling, raising the stakes for Mr. von Finckenstein’s appearance Thursday.

The regulatory chief has been called on the carpet before MPs to explain the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ruling.

Mr. Clement, who only this week announced his government is probing whether to overturn the decision, late Wednesday served notice that he will be closely scrutinizing the comments of Mr. von Finckenstein, the very regulator whose decision he’s now second-guessing. The CRTC is independent but cabinet has the power to amend or rescind its rulings.

Using his Twitter instant messaging account – followed by more than 8,300 people, including journalists and many in political circles – Mr. Clement hammered home how skeptical he is of the CRTC decision concerning what Internet providers call “usage-based billing.”

“I’m looking forward to the CRTC chairman’s appearance before the House Industry Committee … to explain his support for the UBB decision,” the Industry Minister said via Twitter.

To drive home his point, Mr. Clement quickly added: “I remain very concerned by the UBB decision of the CRTC and look forward to my review being completed ASAP.”

Mr. Clement is the most avid Twitter user in the federal cabinet, having posted more than 2,500 messages. He’s shown a knack for careful tweeting that avoids missteps. While he discusses music and his personal life, his political-themed messages are normally worded to make a point rather than repeat blandishments.

Mr. Clement and the Harper cabinet have overturned the CRTC before, of course, by striking down the regulator’s ruling that Globalive, which now operates Wind Mobile, couldn’t launch service in the regulated sector because of foreign financial backing.

A CRTC official said this week the agency has received thousands of complaints about its decision, which allows large Internet providers such as BCE Inc.’s Bell Canada to charge smaller providers who lease space on their networks on a per-byte, or usage, basis.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper himself took the unusual step of intervening in the controversy, putting more heft behind Mr. Clement’s move to review the CRTC ruling – a strong sign of the Conservatives’ displeasure with the regulator’s decision.

It’s an unwelcome development for major Internet providers, which have fought for years for the CRTC ruling that effectively ends “unlimited” Internet download plans.

The Conservatives said the probe of the ruling will be finished by or before March 1.

While the Conservatives insist they have not yet decided what to do, the government is sounding very sympathetic to CRTC critics who say the verdict will hurt Internet commerce and consumers.

“We want to ensure that the Internet is available for consumers, small businesses, innovators and creators. That is what we are all about,” Mr. Clement told the Commons Wednesday.

needless to say, the CRTC’s been told, your choice, but either way, this will get reversed, either voluntarily or forcefully.
This is one thing I don’t mind eyeballing, and have been eyeballing since my last
primus
bill showed up wherein this was mentioned.
working off that, while I was putting the above together, we have
this
from
OpenMedia

The CRTC’s Usage-based billing rules will be reviewed by the CRTC, or overturned by the government.

We’re not at the finish line yet, but this is a massive win for all 330,000 of us who signed the Stop The Meter petition.

What we do not know:
1. Will the CRTC review all of it’s UBB decisions pertaining to Indie ISPs or just those pertaining to the specific billing rules?
2. Will UBB be suspended until the CRTC finishes it’s review?
3. Will the CRTC actually do a complete reversal in the end, or will they try to save face by doing a half-measured response (giving the Indie ISPs a better deal on UBB, but not removing it’s imposition)

What we do know:
1. From what the Globe reports, major telecom companies (Bell, Shaw, Rogers, Videotron), will still be allowed to impose UBB on their retail customers
2. They will now face more competition from indie ISPs who will, to some degree, be able to decide on their own pricing.

In short, this is an amazing and unprecedented victory for innovators, entrepreneurs and Canadians of all stripes…. But we are NOT at the finish line. There is nothing that big telecom would like more than to change the channel on this debate. Lets take a minute to pat ourselves on the back, but not this victory act as veil on the work that still needs to be done. Bi

The next round will likely be with the CRTC. We have momentum behind us, we have the government and major opposition parties behind us, we have over 330,000 of us who have taken a firm stand in favour of an accessible open Internet. If we keep the momentum going we can stop the meter, and fix the structural problems in our communications system.

Big telecom lobbyists are waiting to back to business as usual; the backroom meetings, the captured regulator, the uninformed citizenry. Lets not go back there – this has been too fun.

We’re just about there – please keep raising awareness amongst your friends, family and networks – let continue to grow our community of supporters:

  1. Married to krista.

  2. We have a child on the way because I supposedly had unprotected sex.
  3. I moved down their perminantly and didn’t report that to ODSP.

firstly, how the hell can I be married to krista when we’re not even engaged?
Secondly, a child? seriously? how the hell’d that happen, from 400 miles away? that’d have to be one long ass dick, ok? just… omg.
Thirdly? moved down their? really? except not. Wishful thinking, but sadly, didn’t happen.
So the result of that, kathy, my worker, now has to issue appropriate amounts of clue to get this fixed, and attempt to not die while laughing.

and this person has other kids? not anymore she don’t.

We start out today… with yet another clue.
This is what… the 2nd day in a row?
Doing the morning cruise through RSS feeds, we find a mother that got charged for an amber alert, why? because the mother decided to use her kid as
insurance
so a man would return her car.
Then she claimed the child was abducted, oh yeah, this is just brilliant.
Have the article in full.

The Elmira mother charged after the city’s first use of the Amber Alert system used her 3-year-old son as “insurance” when she loaned an acquaintance her car, a prosecutor said Thursday.

Stephanie A. Davila, 33, of South Walnut Street, was also accused of lying to police as they were looking for her son, Jacob Ryan Rubin Davila.
Law enforcement officials said the mother loaned her car to a man she didn’t know well and made him take the boy so he would return the vehicle.
The boy, who was reported missing Tuesday night, was found unharmed Wednesday morning at a motel room in Henrietta, a suburb of Rochester.
Stephanie Davila and the man accused of taking Jacob Davila, Quentin M. Singletary, 26, of Rochester, were both charged Wednesday with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. They are scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Elmira City Court.
“Right now, I feel we’ve got appropriate charges filed,” Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore said Thursday, adding that he’d spoken in detail with Capt. Joe Kain, commander of the Elmira Detective Bureau, about the investigation.
The misdemeanor complaint against Stephanie Davila accuses her of misleading police as they looked for her son.
“When the patrol originally went over there, she flat-out told us it was an abduction of her child against her wishes,” Kain said.
That information led police to issue an Amber Alert, saying that Jacob Davila had been abducted, Kain said.
“It wasn’t until we interviewed some of her other kids, and some of the information was able to be obtained to find out that she actually did give him (Singletary) consent to take her car and one of her children,” Kain said.
Another charge may be coming: Wetmore said he may charge Singletary with unlawful imprisonment, but Davila’s actions the night Jacob Davila went missing might stand in the way.
“(Davila) insisted that (Singletary) take her son when he took the car, as insurance that he would return the car,” Wetmore said, adding that that was the reason for her charge.

“He never intended to kidnap (Jacob), or anything. He just took the kid and went to do his business in Rochester,” Wetmore said.

Wetmore said he charged Singletary with endangering “because he had the kid legitimately, but for whatever reason he decided to go off to Rochester.”
Wetmore said he didn’t know why Singletary went to Rochester with Jacob Davila, and said Stephanie Davila also didn’t know.
“She didn’t want to know what his business was,” Wetmore said.
“According to her, she thought he was just going to a local Burger King. She let her son go off.”
Kain said there is no evidence Singletary’s trip to Rochester was related to drug trafficking.
He said there may have been some drug paraphernalia in the motel room in Henrietta where deputies found the boy, but Singletary and Jacob Davila had only been in that room for a few minutes. He said they stayed in a different room at the motel.
When deputies found Jacob Davila, they questioned Singletary, one man and two women.
Kain said the three other adults whom deputies found in the room “knew nothing about Quentin Singletary … abducting a kid or anything like that. They knew (Jacob) as his girl’s baby, so they never questioned anything about it. He just kind of hung out up there with them.”
Though the three other adults in the motel room may have thought the boy belonged to Singletary’s girlfriend, Kain said he didn’t know whether he and Stephanie Davila actually had a romantic relationship.
He said the two met about two weeks ago and had seen each other a few times since then.
“Quentin didn’t even know the boy’s name,” Kain said. “If he had to think for a while, it would come to him. … (Davila) doesn’t know him; he doesn’t know nothing about her.
“That’s his lifestyle, just come and go and do his own thing. He’s not accountable to anybody …,” Kain said.
Kain said Singletary has a criminal history but didn’t elaborate except to say that Singletary had never been arrested in Elmira.
Police said they fielded perhaps thousands of calls after issuing the Amber Alert. Kain said two of those callers provided information that helped locate Jacob Davila. He said he planned to talk to both.
“They did an outstanding job and it helped us out immensely, so I’d like to commend them in whatever way I can,” Kain said.
“It’s nice when people step up and do the right thing, especially when it’s a good cause: the protecting and the saving of a little kid.”

So in short, the man in question, Kain, isn’t being charged, unless I’m missing something, and the mother is.
Please do be taking the rest of her kids to, ok?

a note to people who think I’m made of money. their’s a clue inside. go fetch.

This is an open clue to specific individuals who think I’m made of money and who need a knew brain.
Please take note of the following in list format.

  • Nobody was home when I left on december 1, 2010.
  • Your waiting until now, almost a month later, to ask about the house key? seriously?

Now, for a couple well aimed clues.

  • If you really want me to ship the key back to you, kindly pay for it. and *my*, transportation, at $25 each way, to and from pembroke by cab to ship the offending piece of metal.
  • a more smarter idea is this, it’s cheeper to simply cut another key than to spend almost $15 in shipping, + transportation costs, to and from the post office, for me to ship the house key back to you.

  • what the fuck am I gonna do with the house key nearly 9 hours away, for serious?

In short, quit wasting my time, and yours, and the money I don’t have, and get over yourselves.
Replace the lock or the housekey, and move the fuck on.
I don’t wanna here anymore wining you can’t rent the room out because, *I*, didn’t give back the house key.
the simple fact is this, your to goddamn lazy to cut a knew one, and that’s the end of it.
Thanks for playing, now, shut up and leave me the hell alone.
note, to the people this is directed at, this is my blog, my opinion, don’t like what I have to say, stop reading, right the hell now.

And people wonder why I don’t fly?

and here, we go again.
TSA, seriously
agaain

The 50-year-old pilot, who lives outside Sacramento, asked that neither he nor his airline be identified. He has worked for the airline for more than a decade and was deputized by the TSA to carry a gun in the cockpit.

He is also a helicopter test pilot in the Army Reserve and flew missions for the United Nations in Macedonia.

Three days after he posted a series of six video clips recorded with a cell phone camera at San Francisco International Airport, four federal air marshals and two sheriff’s deputies arrived at his house to confiscate his federally-issued firearm. The pilot recorded that event as well and provided all the video to News10.

At the same time as the federal marshals took the pilot’s gun, a deputy sheriff asked him to surrender his state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon.

A follow-up letter from the sheriff’s department said the CCW permit would be reevaluated following the outcome of the federal investigation.

The YouTube videos, posted Nov. 28, show what the pilot calls the irony of flight crews being forced to go through TSA screening while ground crew who service the aircraft are able to access secure areas simply by swiping a card.

“As you can see, airport security is kind of a farce. It’s only smoke and mirrors so you people believe there is actually something going on here,” the pilot narrates.

Video shot in the cockpit shows a medieval-looking rescue ax available on the flight deck after the pilots have gone through the metal detectors. “I would say a two-foot crash ax looks a lot more formidable than a box cutter,” the pilot remarked.

A letter from the TSA dated Dec. 6 informed the pilot that “an administrative review into your deputation status as a Federal Flight Deck Officer has been initiated.”

According to the letter, the review was directly related to the discovery by TSA staff of the YouTube videos. “The content and subject of these videos may have violated regulations concerning disclosure of sensitive security information,” the letter said.

The pilot’s attorney, Don Werno of Santa Ana, said he believed the federal government sent six people to the house to send a message.

“And the message was you’ve angered us by telling the truth and by showing America that there are major security problems despite the fact that we’ve spent billions of dollars allegedly to improve airline safety,” Werno said.

The pilot said he is not in trouble with his airline, but a supervisor asked him to remove public access to the YouTube videos.

He does, however, face potential civil penalties from the TSA. He said he would likely go public when it becomes clear what the government plans to do with him.
He still hasn't gone public, but further research indicates he did resign as an FFDO. from this article we have:

The pilot said he had resigned his position as an FFDO and was told by a TSA representative the resignation would result in the case being closed. The pilot’s attorney, Don Werno, said he was waiting for formal written confirmation.

In my opinion, why should he have to resign his job, because he showed flaws in a security system? it doesn’t make sense.
from the same article we have this

Current regulations require flight crews to pass through a TSA checkpoint, while ground crews can gain access to the same aircraft simply by swiping a card at an unmanned door.

“How effective is security when everybody on board is screened and everybody on the ground isn’t?” the pilot asked.

How safe do I feel now knowing that?
Should the ground crew not go through *the exact* same screening everyone else does?
I stand behind my previous claims, I’ll stay with greyhound, at least, until such time, as stuff like this is put in place for ground transportation.
Then I may just stop traveling crossboarder all together.
TSA, kindly, die.

really, suing, at a time like this? seriously?

Me and my rss scrolling catching up on the past day’s worth of feeds since the 19th, brought me to this
article
regarding an $80-million lawsuit that Jo-Anne Blair is filing against both the housing company and the property management company of the building on 200 welsley street.
As you may or may not know, some 1500+ people were ripped from their homes back in september when a massive 6 alarm blaze ripped through this downtown highrise.
I personally know one person that’s been effected in this building, but you, my dear readers, may no many, many more.
What brought this to my attention was the article that
680 news
referenced.
That national post article is linked
here
and quoted below in it’s entirety.
My comments and thoughts will follow the article.

Wellesley fire victim files $80-million lawsuit

Aaron Lynett/National Post
Jo-Anne Blair stands outside of her fire-damaged building at 200 Wellesley Street East in Toronto, Friday evening, November 12, 2010. Blair has filed a class action lawsuit against Toronto Community Housing over the fire.
December 18, 2010 – 10:00 am

Jo-Anne Blair has a hard time sleeping at night. She constantly checks to see that her smoke alarm is working. The wail of a fire truck sends her into a fit of panic and she smells things burning even when nothing is.

It has been nearly three months since a fire ripped through a high-rise building on Wellesley Street and forced some 1,500 people to flee their homes. Most have been able to return, but not Ms. Blair, who lived across the hall from the purported epicentre of the blaze. She was marooned on her balcony for six hours before firefighters gave her a thumbs-up through the sliding door and escorted her out through water that came up past their ankles.

A week later, Toronto Community Housing had relocated her to a townhouse near Main and Danforth, where she’s had to “beg, borrow and steal to get some furniture to sit on.” Grateful for her share of the donations collected from across the city, she longs to return home.“You can sit at your table in the morning and can have your coffee. You go to bed at night and you have your own pillow,” said Ms. Blair, a former bookkeeper who lived at 200 Wellesley since 1984. “When you get up in the morning, do you look at your children’s pictures [or] your personals that belong to you?”

She is spearheading a lawsuit against Toronto Community Housing Corporation, which owns the complex, and Greenwin Property Management, which looked after it, alleging they breached their duty of care. She is suing both parties for $80-million, with the intent that the proceedings are certified as a class-action.

Ashley Hutcheson for National Post
.In a statement of claim filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ms. Blair alleges that she, “on several occasions,” alerted Greenwin to the potential fire hazard caused by a neighbour’s “hoarding” of stacks of paper and other material.

Fire officials initially said a lot of combustible material in a unit on the 24th floor appeared to be fuelling the flames, but the cause remains unknown. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating.
“Notwithstanding these warnings, Greenwin failed to make any, or did make inadequate attempts, if any, to remedy the problem,” according to the statement of claim. It alleges the defendants failed to keep the building up to fire, or safety codes (her fire alarm did not go off) and didn’t help occupants obtain adequate shelter, food or medicine in the aftermath of the crisis.

“It’s not about being uncaring, because I don’t think TCHC is uncaring. I think they care, they’re in the social housing business,” said Brian Shell, Ms. Blair’s lawyer. “I think it’s about the inability to effectively reach out to the community at a moment of high stress and tension. It may be an issue of expertise, or it may be just an issue of lack of creativity. Too many things going on. They are focused on how to figure out how to dry off the building, but they’ve forgotten they have hundreds of people spread out across the city.”

A spokesman for Greenwin said it was “prudent” not to comment on a matter that is before the courts. Mitzie Hunter, chief administrator for the housing authority, similarly would not discuss allegations made in the suit.

She said TCH has done everything in its power to help.

“We’ve provided alternative housing, food vouchers, transit passes. Immediately following, there was assistance through the Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army, all of the agencies throughout the city. So we certainly want to ensure that tenants have the support they need,” said Ms. Hunter. Toronto public health has been on scene, she said, there is an onsite information desk, a 24-hour hotline and frequent newsletter updates.

In recent weeks, TCH has also offered tenants a voluntary compensation package, while admitting no liability. Tenants who live in a bachelor apartment are eligible to receive $3,300; a two bedroom gets $5,300, plus additional amounts for each occupant for the unit. They have until Jan. 21 to sign up for a cheque. In exchange, tenants give up their right to participate in the class-action suit, which lawyers say is unlikely to be certified before the Jan. 21 deadline.

“We’ve offered to help on a compassionate basis so that tenants can return to their normal lives as soon as possible,” said Ms. Hunter, who noted that former Chief Justice of Ontario Roy McMurtry, Senior Counsel for TCH solicitors Gowlings, has endorsed the plan over what could be an otherwise lengthy legal battle.

Ms. Blair may very well be reliving the day for much longer.

“To this day I will never ever be placed in another apartment. I don’t trust anybody with anything. I’m constantly having nightmares like I’m trapped and I can’t get out.”

I can understand the stress, the heartache, and the sense of loss that accompanies such a tragidy.
What I can’t understand is, why this individual feels that on top of the already high stress levels on both the tennants, and the management/property management companies, does she think she needs to file a lawsuit?
Reading the article above, and having been following this since the morning of the fire in question, I feel that everyone that can do something, has done all they can, and will continue to provide as much aid, and help as needed to bring all the tennants back to their homes.
We may never know what started this fire, or who’s responsible for it, but ladies and gentlemen, common sense should prevale in this troubling time, and instead of suing people, find ways to survive, and allow the company(s) to get back to the job of bringing you back to your home, or relocate you to another home.
TCHC, and it’s partners are doing everything in their power to get everyone back, and lawsuits like this, only slow the process.
I welcome your comments.

I’ve met another pain in my ass, that of the FSU student network and it’s help desk

so a couple of days ago, the
fitchburg state university
student network started having massive issues that were made of utter failure.
Packet loss, dropping us on the floor, horrid DNS resolution, etc. etc. etc.
We chocked it up to students on this router being bandwidth hogs, and generally a detriment to the ability for anyone to get anything done, in a timely manner, so we powered everything down, and crashed.
Yesterday, things were going fine, and krista decides to make dropbox her bitch to move over 30Gigs of shit from one machine to the other, so we can have her on one machine instead of bouncing between a netbook and a laptop depending on the task she needs to perform.
The speeds are absolutely disgusting, and believe me when I say disgusting, I mean, We’re used to, at peak hours, things flying at 775KB/sec upstream, and off hours, welcome to 1500KB/sec bitches.
No, not yesterday.
We saw maybe 200KB/sec, if that, when it decides to move.
the downstream? hi, did we roll back to the dialup days?
Normally with the two of us being bandwidth bitches, we’d see speeds between the two of us topping 2MB/sec down. really? we saw maybe, if we were lucky. 600K down.
so I got it in my head, kill anything we weren’t using, skype, mail, etc.
No change.
we started being tossed on the floor again, packet loss, dns resolution issues, etc.
So I then pick up the phone, and ring the helpdesk and start applying drop kick to peoples heads.
I end up getting this half assed response, well, here’s what you can do, we’re not seing any issues, call us back if it persists.
5 minutes later, neither of us can get online, it’s all exploded. It’s like we’d never used the network before.
Someone over their had reset the permissions on krista’s account, when clearly, I’d told them to leave it alone until the morning when I would call them back for a follow up.
We get her machine, and my machine, back online, but the netbook refuses to do what it’s told, I can surf the regular net, but get e-mail or do other essential tasks from the netbook? not happenin!
I beat it around for a bit, reinstalling the driver, trying to fix it, no go.
so I simply shut it down, and go to bed.
This morning rolls around, and I decide, fuck automatic registration, I’ll do it manually.
In other words, from a working computer, pull up the
self-registration
portal of the FSU student network, delete the netbook’s mac address from the system, reboot the netbook and reconnect to the network, forcing it to reregister with the systems.
That’s,. not how it rolled.
The webpage refused to load, either on my machine or krista’s.
So I pick up the phone again, and sit on hold for a million years, and finally get through to someone with a brain, and explain the entire situation, she reviews the ticket, then she herself, attempts to access
ENAC
and it tells her to go to hell as well.
So that tells me that it’s not just me and I’m not losing my mind, (not that I had anything to lose to begin with.)
After some digging, she escalates the ticket and reminds me of the policy of only having 3 devices per ID on the network.
I ask her where that’s documented, she tells me well it should have been in the paperwork you signed.
I then inform her that the residence agreement available to students online via the student portal, or the TOS/AUP available during registration make no mention of this stipulation and that I think she’s lying to me.
She hims and haws telling me I must have missed it, I don’t know how to read, it went on and on.
I told her politely but firmly, that she has to choices, either quit bullshitting me around or put me through to her supervisor, because I was done dealing with her giving me the run around.
so She then says, well you can get a special request to lift that limit, I ask her to make it happen.
She adds that to the ticket.
Then informs me that I will be hearing from her or teer 2 support by the hour of noon, today with a resolution to the matter.
I tell her that’s fine, and that I’d be speaking to her at 12:00PM eastern time today.
Why isn’t krista dealing with this herself, you may ask?
Because the technicians won’t listen to her, and she’s afraid to employ drop kick liberally to peoples heads, and I’m not, so, you want it done, welcome to drop kick central.
If this is not resolved by the end of the day today, they are aware that I’ll have krista file a complaint with the dean of student services, and something will get done, and someone over their, may end up jobless, or at least, severlely reprimanded.
To top it off, without a firm resolution to the matter, by the end of the day, they’ll get an introduction to my best friend.
Wanna know what that is?
It’s called.
welcome to open communication,
fitchburg state university
hope you enjoy.
With that, I’ll see you next time.

I can’t find words to express my feelings.

while going through twitter, I came across this
news story.
and reading it, I’m immotionally drained.
Why, goddamn it, why would a mother, that already had to children, do this, to their 3rd child.
What the fuck possessed her.
And why the fuck did the authorities, let her have anymore kids, knowing she took/is taking drugs?
Could they not have court ordered her to have her tubes tied so she could not give birth again, and simply remove all the other children from the home?
They waited until the youngest is killed, before listening to what other family members were trying to say from the get go to do anything.
Reading that, I…. just can’t find words, or the immotions to express my sadness for the rest of the family, and this child’s older siblings who lost their younger sister because of their mother’s actions.
As for the mother, I don’t normally say this, but may you burn in hell, and never see the light of day again you son of a bitch.
I hope someone kills you in your sleep.

I’ve been victimized by the devel, cpanel!

I used to have this mild dislike for
Cpanel
that is supposedly the leading control panel, or so it’s
website says.
After tonight, that mild dislike has turned into utter hatred.
as
james
has also
posted
It started out as a mild
wordpress
issue that I asked
him
to help me fix.
actually it was more like I wanted
google analytics
to better provide tracking and other useful things.
Well, the plugins wouldn’t install, nothing would update, it was just a giant cluster fuck, so we decided, maybe the install’s hozed, so back your shit up, let’s reinstall that.
This is when we found all the broken things
so, Well a five minute job turned into 2 and a half hours, of nothing but headaches, and just stupidness!
I swear to god, when you install apache, it shouldn’t have shit barried under every fucking conceivable location in the linux operating system, and some spots, you wouldn’t think of!
Cpanel seriously, I hate you, if this hasn’t been made clear by now.
We came to the conclusion that apache was partially hozed, with miscompiled modules, etc, so simple fix, right? recompile the missing shit, and carry on, right? not so much!
The entire apache install was hozed, causing me to have to rip it apart, and basically take it down to the barebones, then rebuild the entire fucking thing back to spec, and to my standards.
I swear to god, cpanel, if you weren’t the one my customers liked, and what made me money, I’d fucking shoot you!
I seriously, and utterly, hate your goddamn guts.
you are the biggist piece of shit this side of the mississippi.
you stupid thundercunt of a control panel.
your supposed to be easy? your supposed to make things easier? really?
Tonight’s issues were deffinitly not easy to resolve, eeven with cpanel.
If i’d been able to get away with it, I’d have recompiled every goddamn package on that system from ground 0 from source and told cpanel to kiss my fucking ass.
But because it’s the thing that makes me able to pay the bills, I keep it around, but let me tell you, from now on, I’m not going in their, I know where all the shit is to do everything I need to from the command line, if it doesn’t exist, I’ll fuckin’ write a script to accomplish a task.
I’m not touching your useless web interface that’s made of so much fail, i’d have better luck talking to krista’s mother vanessa then making you do what your fucking told, and that, for the love of fuck, is saying something!
With that said, I’m done, for now.

is your personally identifiable inforrmation on facebook, really secure?

so as I do on a regular bases i keep up with interesting newsbits, and techy things, as well as blogs, via rss.
I ran across
this story
witch raises a lot of questions about facebook’s apparent lack of security when it comes to third party applications.
The article tells us that some applications, are in violation of facebook’s *own8 rules and regulations.
In my opinion, shold facebook not have been checking applications, before allowing them to be used by the general public to ensure they met their own guidelines for information security?
The article indicates that some applications are giving peoples names, and those of friends, to nearly 25 different advertising agencies, in clear violation of the setout policies that facebook has in place.
The article does indicate facebook is taking steps to fix this issue, but my point here is this.
Facebook should be keeping a better handle on it’s applications, and ensuring no matter the app, that it meets minimum security guiddelines before even releasing it to the public, if it doesn’t sorry your app can’t be used until it meets our minimum security requirements.
I’d like to here your thoughts on this.
What do you think of this latest facebook fiasco.
Should facebook impose stricter control over 3rd partty applications to ensure things like this, don’t happen in the future?
I await your comments.

and you claim to be the largist network, in canada? with the least dropped calls? seriously?

So while on the phone with
james
via his cell phone, since his land line is currently made of fail, thanks to bell
fucking him over even after him paying them.
The call all of a sudden, without rhyme, or reason, takes a giant shit.
I get a fast busy signal, go to call back, and I get uncerimoniously fired, into voicemail.
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this.
This is like the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen this, with different customers.
It’s like rogers in it’s monopolizing the fuckin’ cell phone markit, has forgotten the fundamentals of proper network maintenance.
This is one reason I’ve switched to
wind mobile
because even with it’s
stupid fair use policy regarding call lengths
when their’s a network problem they’ve always fixed it quick enough, where it *never* happens again, and if necessary, threw a credit at my head for my trouble.
So rogers, this is still not convincing me to return to you, ok?

the question of where will we be by the end of the season? comes to mind.

so, again, we find
this
while bouncing through the RSS feeds.
For your reading pleasure I shove the article in it’s entirety at your faces, see below the article for my comments.

Don’t look now, but the Toronto Maple Leafs are first in the Eastern Conference and are enjoying the view from atop the overall league standings.

Yes, the team that finished 29th in the NHL last season are off to a start nobody believed could happen.

Toronto has stormed out of the gate with three straight victories, erasing memories of last season’s horrendous start. Let’s not forget, it took the Leafs 15 games before they notched win number three last year.

To add fire to the early-season hopes, the last time the Leafs started the season 3-0 in 1999-2000, they ended up winning the Northeast Division title.

And a win on Friday night in New York against the Rangers would certainly give Leaf fans pause to think back to the good old days of the 1993-94 season, when the Maple Leafs went unbeaten in their first four games en route to 10 consecutive victories.

So what gives?

A lot of things have had to come together for this surprise start, including luck, which anyone will tell you is a big part of the game.

First is goaltending.

By this time last year, Vesa Toskala had earned the right to steal former Canadiens goalie Andre Racicot’s dubious nickname, “Red Light Racicot.” Last season, Toskala was certainly deserving of the “red light” moniker as opposing players lit the lamp behind him with ease.

In contrast, veteran J.S. Giguere has solidified Toronto’s goaltending. And just as important, he has taken the pressure off back-up Jonas Gustavsson, which is allowing the young goaltender to learn the ropes at his own pace.

Next on the list is scoring.

In the 4-3 triumph over Pittsburgh on Wednesday, 10 different Leafs found their way onto the score sheet. A year ago, that would have never happened. Back then, scoring by committee was more theory than reality.

The Maple Leafs are getting goals from summer pick-ups like Kris Versteeg and Clarke MacArthur. MacArthur in particular has been a revelation on the second line. He, along with Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski, gives the Leafs solid secondary scoring, something the team was sorely lacking last season.

Special teams are also doing what they’re supposed to do — put the puck in and keep the puck out.

Toronto’s penalty killers, among the worst in the NHL last season, are grouped in with the best at this early point of the season. Through their 3-0 start, the penalty killing success rate currently sits at an impressive 90 per cent.

Last and by no means least is what you don’t see on the scoreboard or in black and white in the standings.

When it became apparent that something was horribly wrong with his team, general manager Brian Burke dealt with the so-called “Blue and White disease” — the lackadaisical approach to winning that infected previous Leaf teams.

You won’t find this malady in the Mayo Clinic’s list of deadly illnesses but what Burke has done is chase away the players who cared more about playing for themselves than they did about doing what it takes to win.

Having guys who care about winning is perhaps the most important dynamic that’s changed in the Maple Leafs dressing room from this time last year. It has certainly shown in the added hustle, shot-blocking, and determination that’s been injected by muckers like Tim Brent and Mike Brown. And the attitude change has given the paying public reason to believe that Ron Wilson hasn’t lost it as an NHL head coach who can motivate his troops.

As for the future, Burke made a move that bodes well for Toronto as he plots how to make the playoffs. By sending defenceman Jeff Finger to the minors, Burke cleared about $4.73 million in much-needed cap space. The GM is now in a better position to acquire a scorer than he was when his team began the season.

So will the Leafs’ success last?

No, but it doesn’t matter.

The fact the Leafs are 3-0 is a welcomed surprise, and gives long-suffering Leaf fans some much needed hope.

“Everyone keeps bringing up last year,” defenceman Dion Phaneuf said after beating Pittsburgh. “Well, it doesn’t really matter right now. We’re focused on this group and this year.”

Enjoy the ride, while it lasts.

Frankly, reading that, yes, their is some hope, but as said
here
it’s early in the season and things can, and will, change.
Their has been a lot of better plays happening, better penalty killing, just overall *better* teamwork, then last year, will this bring them to the top and into the stanly cup finals? who knows. For now we’re on top, but can we stay in the right spot to make the finals.
We’ll most deffinitly find out as the season progresses.
that’s it, for now.

6. Kerri Murtland: If someone claims they love you and their own selfish needs come before you bettering yourself is that love? Final. about 18 minutes ago at 1:11:54 PM on 7/17/2010 from mobile web

Ok, so. let’s do what I do best and have fun with this.

Kerri, has on numorous occasions, told one Mr. Josh Remmelzwaal, (refered to as simply as *he* here on out), that, she does not love him, they *are* not in a relationship, no matter what his little head, between his legs wants to think, and to get over her and to fuck off.

Yes, I did say, the head between his legs.

This is the head he thinks with, and not the head between his ears. That particular organ is filled with air.

So he still doesn’t get this point.

Let’s move on to the reason for this post, that being, his selfish behavior.

Let’s for a second here say for the reasons of this post, that he had a snowballs chance in the firy depths of hell of getting back with kerri for a second chance.

We all know this isn’t true, but let’s pretend, ok?

So, if he truly loved Kerri. would he

*continuely put himself before her

*continuely ask for birthday presents from her?

*knowing that Kerri’s attempting to better her life, bother the crap out of her and want to hang out and when told know, flip a fit?

Um, no!

If you truly loved/cared about someone, in my mind, here’s how this works.

*you, sacrifice whatever you have to, in order to support the individual you want to be/are with.

*you stand by this individual, no matter what life throws at you both, and if this involves more sacrifice, you do it.

*you do not act like a selfish prat, and think your crap comes before the other persons. especially when it comes to finances, if you get a present/something from the person you are with, you be happy about it, but you don’t ask for stuff for your birthday. Kinda, rude, yeah?

TO summarize, in my mind, Mr. Josh, is a selfish, too faced, idiot, who thinks about nothing but himself, and how much he can screw others.

He has no idea of sacrifice, no idea of what it takes to support someone, unless it is bettering him.

If it doesn’t better him, or he’s not getting money, he doesn’t give a shit.

So, in closing, I’m gonna say this.

Josh needs to, to quote a text from kerri

get over me, and move on!

with all that said, I await your comments.

I’ll post another time.

Sex Offender Wins Custody of Daughter.

This is fucking dispicabel.
I’m extremely outraged.
My comments follow the article.

Sex Offender Wins Custody of Daughter.
A HEROIN-addicted sex offender has won custody of his young daughter because the girl’s mother is considered an even more unsuitable parent.
Child protection campaigners yesterday lashed the Federal Magistrates’ Court decision to leave the girl in such conditions as outrageous and “defying logic”.
Granting custody of the girl, aged about 5, to the father, the court branded the mother dishonest and criticised her continuing drug use. The court heard the mother, who has shoplifting and prostitution-related convictions and a history of drug use, left the labour ward to buy heroin soon after giving birth.
The father, who also has a string of convictions, was put on the sex offenders’ list after being convicted of wilful and obscene exposure The girl, who has behavioural problems and a speech impediment, has suffered serious injuries.
Her plight was reported to the Department of Human Services last year after she was treated for a serious burn to her buttocks. Each parent blamed the other for it. The girl also had injuries from a dog bite and once suffered an injury from being hit with a shoe. The couple separated soon after the birth, and the father is reported to have been violent to the mother.
But, despite concerns he had taken drugs as recently as last December, and kept a knife and sword collection, the court last month ruled the girl should live with him.
“The father provides calmer parenting with more clearly set boundaries than the mother does,” the magistrate said.
“A history of inadequate supervision combined with heroin and marijuana use create a serious concern that (the girl) may be neglected by her mother.”
The girl will spend two out of three weekends with her mother. The court gave the father custody because the mother continued to use drugs and “had been dishonest with the court”.
Her drug-screening tests repeatedly indicated the presence of benzodiazepines and opiates. She was even suspected of once taking drugs while in the court precinct arguing for custody. Her home was once described as filthy and strewn with vomit and faecal material, though the court accepted its cleanliness was usually “probably in an acceptable range”.
The father is on a disability pension and hasn’t worked in almost 10 years because of depression.
“There was no evidence (he) is making any notable contribution to society,” the court said.
It said he “was using drugs or doing something else he did not want to admit” as recently as last September, and had lied about his whereabouts when meant to be caring for his daughter.
But he was making progress with his addictions. It ordered him to dispose of his weapons. The Australian Childhood Foundation’s Joe Tucci said the decision “defies logic”.
“Children shouldn’t ever be placed in a situation where the rights of the parents . . . override their right to protection,” he said.
“The decision should be about whether a child is safe or not, not which parent is the better to look after them.
“The community expects children to be looked after by their parents, and if the parents fail this then the courts need to look after them.”
Child protection campaigner Hetty Johnston said the ruling was “outrageously dangerous”.”There’s no way staying with either parent should have even been an option. This isn’t in the best interest of the child,” she said.
A Department of Human Services spokesman said it was no longer involved in the case.

Let’s nail a few points here.

  • what the hell is the child doing with *either* parent to begin with?

  • with that said, are the courts utterly demented in the head? what the hell is this! your going to put the child in an abusive environment because, what, the state/department can’t pony up the money to keep this child safe?

No matter what, I’m shocked by this decision, that has been handed down.
Both parents, in my opinion, are unfit parents, so *neither* of them should have custody of this child.
Also, take into account the fact that this child is disabled, with a speech impediment. Can these parents provide for this child’s physical, medical, needs, with this drug habbit burning every spare dollar? In my opinion, no!
Ladies and gentlemen, the department of child services, and today’s justice system are a disgrace, no matter where you live, it’s atrotious.
I’ve posted previously in this blog about lesser cases, where the child is taken and put into the department as a ward of the state/county.
If these departments and our court systems, are going to do this to lesser cases, in a case like this article shows, why the fuck are they putting this child into an environment that, will most likely kill this child?
I want to here your opinions.
Am I wrong?
Am i just spouting out of anger?
Have i missed a vital point here somewhere?
The comment boards await you.

a long overdue post

Hello all,
It’s been awhile since i’ve actually posted something other then random bouts of humor, etc.
So let’s catch up on the happenings in my life.
As those of you who follow my
twitter
will know I’m again single. I’m not going to go into details, it’s in the past and if you really want to know my thoughts on it go read twitter, or ask me via messenger.
As well i’ve moved out of what i most fondly called the cockroach motel, and now live on king street. It’s a better area of town, more accessible to bus routes that i know and can use, and i’m much happier here.
Health wise, i’m going through a lot of issues right now, trying to gain lost weight, severe bouts of depression, medications that aren’t agreeing with me, etc.
If you really want to keep up with me, follow me on twitter, as it’s the fastist way to no what i’m up to.
ok, piece for now.

Is freedom scientific finally losing their touch?

Hello fellow blog readers
It’s been awhile since I posted something of major substance to the blind community here.
On
this blog
We have some very interesting posts to reference.
I’m going to post each of them below, exactly as posted, and I’ll follow each one of them up with my comments.
The first one is entitled

Critical security flaw in JAWS

and was posted on october 16, 2009.

Critical security flaw in JAWS
October 16, 2009 by Tyler Spivey
I have found a critical security flaw in the JAWS Screen reader that allows an attacker to gain full system-level access to

the machine. I have tested this on 32-bit Windows Vista
with JAWS 10.0.1154 and 32-bit Windows 7 with JAWS 11.0.611 Beta.

Instructions:

1. From the Windows logon screen with JAWS running, press insert+f2. Run JAWS Manager will appear.
2. Select Settings Packager, and press ok. Settings Packager will open.
3. From Settings Packager, go to File menu > Open, or press ctrl+o.
4. In the open dialog, type “%windir%\system32\*.exe” into the file name field (without the quotes) and press enter.
5. In the list of files, find cmd. Right click on it, or press the applications key and select Run as Administrator.
A system-level command prompt should open. To get out of it, type exit and press enter, then close the Settings Packager.

my comments on this one
Note that this was during the last public beta build of jaws 11, build 611. I was able to varrify this issue with this build of jaws on all machines I have access to. After build 729 the final release to the public on DVD version of jaws came out on october 19 2009, tyler reported in his next post, see below, had been fixed. but as this next will show, this problem still exists using a different set of varrifiable instructions.
The next post entitled

JAWS security flaw, round 2

has this to say.

JAWS security flaw, round 2
October 19, 2009 by Tyler Spivey
In my First Post, I described a security vulnerability that allowed local users to gain system-level access to a machine. A quick test with JAWS 11.0.729, the release build of JAWS 11, reveals that it is fixed. Here is a slightly different set of instructions that will do the same thing.
1. From the login screen, press insert+j, and navigate to utilities/configuration manager.
2. When configuration manager opens, press control+o.
3. press the Import button. The open dialog will appear.
4. On my Windows 7 test machine, I got an error box that can safely be dismissed. Once done, type %windir%\system32\*.exe into the open dialog.
5. find cmd in the list, and press the applications key on it. Select Run as administrator if it appears. If not, keep following these steps.
6. From cmd’s context menu, pick select. answer no to the question asking you to overwrite settings files, if it comes up.
7. press import, and pick cmd from the list again. Activate the context menu, and select Run as administrator.
If done correctly, you should have an administrative command prompt

I took that set of instructions and again tested them on as many systems as possible, and low and behold, I received an administrative command prompt.
But the ensanity doesn’t end there.
On the same day, this post

Gathering passwords with the JAWS builtin keylogger

hit his blog.
The text is below.

Gathering passwords with the JAWS builtin keylogger
October 19, 2009 by Tyler Spivey
JAWS so helpfully contains a built-in script that logs all keys pressed on the keyboard. This method has a better chance of working on XP than the others. You must have a user account on the machine to make this work.

1. Open Keyboard manager, and open the default file. Add a key to the “ToggleKeyboardLogging” script.

2. Once done, log out of the machine. Your profile will still be loaded. Press that key. The only thing JAWS will say is “enabled”. Log into the machine, then open keystrokes.log in your jaws program directory. all keys pressed will be there, from the last time the script was enabled

At the time of writing, do to my keyboard manager acting up, I have not been able to test this particular vulnerability relating to the keylogger.
At the time this went to press, Freedom scientific LLC,
http://www.freedomscientific.com
was closed.
But the following e-mail was dispatched to both the support and info addresses.

subject: freedom scientific’s response to the security wholes found in jaws 11?

To whom this may concern,
I am writing this message in reference to three blog posts available at:

http://tspivey.wordpress.com/

and who’s text and my comments were placed on my own blog at

http://www.shaned.net/blog

To summarize these posts, it was discovered that not only can system level access to the computer be gained using your software, but your program includes a hidden keylogger that isn’t even documented that logs all keystrokes entered and can gain sensative information from a users computer?
These keys hense are logged to keystrokes.log.
I would like to ask, what is freedom scientifics stand on these issues, and is freedom scientific willing to comment publicly for airing on ACBRadio’s main menu and in other public venues regarding these security wholes?
I Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Shane Davidson

We shall see what comes of this.
until then.

random thoughts and feelings

This entry isn’t a normal happy entry. it’s mostly gonna be rambling and has no order to it what so ever. Some parts may not even make sense but I just needed to write my feelings.
If you don’t like, stop reading, right the fuck now.
So I went downtown today to do monthly banking, bills, the usual shit, and thought, fine, I’ll see if I could track down kerri, and she could make this go a hell of a lot faster. Oh, I found kerri, all right, but who was she with? Fuckin’ josh! She ended up guiding me to the nearist TD, with josh and his snide comments all the way… things like, don’t touch my kid, keep your hands off, shit like that. It took everything I had not to turn around and belt him upside his fucking head with my cane. I’ve been more of a daddy to that child than he’ll ever be, I’ve made kerri happier for it, but josh doesn’t seem to fucking give up. Anyhow, I asked kerri if she was going to meet me back at TD so I could spend time with her and *my* child, but when I came out, she wasn’t their, come to find out josh had hauled her off to who knows where. Ended up catching up with her at jackson for a breef 30 seconds, because josh, probably thinking I was incompitent wants to feed her. Even though I’d said to her I’d take her to get something to eat. Needless to say after I grabbed something to eat I had to get assistance home, because my focus went to hell, I couldn’t concintrate to save myself. A nice gentlemen ended up giving me a ride because I think he saw my distress and inability to focus. I am now home, but I sit here asking myself, Am I wrong to feel left out? Am I wrong to feel like today was a waste of time? Am I a moron to think I’m doing the right thing? Why everytime I see kerri with josh do I have this inexplicable urge to strangle the fuck out of josh consiquences be damned? I understand josh is the baby daddy, but frankly, if he died I’d probably be happy for it as I know what he put kerri through and he deserves to be dead. I just don’t know, I know where her loyalties, kerri’s loyalties lie, but their’s still a part of me going, shane? You’ve been screwed before. This only happens when I know she’s with josh or I see josh with her downtown. I’m so afraid, so insecure right now it’s scary. I feel like I’m falling again, and nobody can catch me. I know who I love, but everytime I see sperm donnor I wonder, is he going to attempt to fill her brain with shit, and cause her to leave? I know this isn’t true, but my brain still thinks it.
ok, I’m done for now.
Sorry about the unorderlyness of this entry.
Before I go, everyone who knows me knows who I love, and who I want to marry, who’s child I call my own, and who I’ll give my life for if it means her and that child survive. That child may not be my own biologically but blood aside, he’s my child, and nobody will change that.
I will try and come up with something with more substance in it at another time.
