put away your calculators. There no longer needed to comment.
Hey all;
I killed the math plugin on this blog. So you no longer have to do basic addition to comment.
Enjoy.
Hey all;
I killed the math plugin on this blog. So you no longer have to do basic addition to comment.
Enjoy.
twitterfeed’s been officially dumped. same with the separate e-mail subscribing to this blog and it’s comments. wanna subscribe, each post has appropriate checkboxes. use them.
enjoy.
I blame someone not me for handing me what’s about to happen to the blog.
We’ll be busting commenting, e-mail subscriptions, and other random crap.
This is what happens when we condense multiple plugins into one.
Ready? set? explode!
From that who owns this thing.
I’ve had a number of complaints, not about the content, but a few visual aspects that could be made that much better.
so with the help of someone that knows what there doing with themes, things are gonna do some interesting things over the next little while.
You have been warned.
I apologize in advance if it explodes.
ok, that theme blew ass.
Sorry about that, it’s fixed, now.
From that guy who owns this thing.
so while reading
this blog
I liked it’s theme, so I decided to toss it over here.
This may make things blow up, and everything to explode as I try and make duplicate frames piss off, etc.
If your a sighted user and know wordpress and wanna help? I won’t say no.
Hey, if your blind and have tips, I won’t say no to those, either.
Sorry for things blowing up and possibly looking like someone chewed it up and vomitted it up later.
Hey all;
As a way to combat spam, and to make sure not even those fools that get around my spam measures, have you some basic math skills.
If you don’t know basic edition, subtraction, etc. and comment without answering the question? Your comment won’t go through.
Enjoy 403 errors for those of you without basic math skills.
For those who are tech savvy, *do not* upgrade to version 3.3 of wordpress if you value your sanity.
This goes for those who maintain blogs for others.
wordpress 3.3, has redesigned their dashboard, among other screens and these changes toss accessibility, straight out the window. James and myself are actively looking for fixes, etc. to resolve the broken, but for now stick with version 3.2X and far away from version 3.3 for the time being.
a forum topic exists over herethat we started, that topic, then directs youover herebut doesn’t address the concerns raised in the original forum topic.
Readers/commenters,
The admin team can’t trust you to play nicely, so we’re gonna start treating everybody like preschoolers. Wanna post a comment? You need a *valid* email address, absolutely no exceptions. This is no longer a concern of, “you’re pissing us off.” This is a concern of, “You’re harassing authors and commenters and your commenting priveliges are being revoked if you don’t have an e-mail address the server can validate.”
No address the server can validate?
Then no commenting for you.
we don’t like the mail validator plugin and we don’t like to have to ban by IP, but if it’s gonna help save somebody from finding out who’s got a bullet with her name on it and asking them to fire till they find out which one it is, we’ll use those things as preventative steps.
Treating people like preschoolers wasn’t how we wanted to spend our day, but you guys earned it. Have a problem with us? Take it up personally and don’t act like a 6th grader. A 12-year-old can handle this shit better than some of you are. This is disgusting that we even have to implement such a half -assed plugin to get the job done, but as of right now there are no other options.
The network in question where these comments were sent from has been notified and steps are being taken to prevent any further harm to this blog, or the server it is hosted on.
Thank you for your time.
Readers both anonymous and from
fitchburg state university.
An issue has arisen wherein you think people’s opinions are worth us removing their posts because you don’t agree with them.
Yes, most of your posts exist
over here
but your not the only organization that have the letters FSU. Any organization with those initials can get stuck under that category depending on the author.
Every post in the above linked category is an opinion, and based on the privacy policy you see on every single page, has the right to be here.
If you fail to read that statement, that is not the fault of the administration team.
Their is nothing illegal about the content herein, and we the administration team will not remove posts because they may shed a bad light on the practices and policies that fitchburg state university have implimented.
We will also not remove posts because they call into question your employees’ lack of caring about your student’s health and safety when you clearly state on your
website
in your
handbook
•
A sense of civility. We act in a civil way toward each other in our classes, at meetings,
at athletic contests, during activities and events, and in our living environment.
How is letting a student live in filth and squallor and ignoring their attempts to get assistance living up to your handbooks statements?
then, When the student in question decides to call you out on it in a public forum, you want the administration team to remove those posts because you don’t like them. People have snapping points. If someone hits a breaking point without breaking any laws, we’re not responsible. we are always an advocate of open communication, see things posted
over here
for prime examples of same.
If you want to openly send us a letter that explains your side of the story, hey, go nuts.
If you want to comment on entries and give your side of the story, again, go nuts.
But we will not, unless explicitly required to by law, remove entries or comments posted by authors and readers because they put an organization in a bad light.
Your students aren’t required to keep quiet if they feel your not living up to basic standards.
If your students decide to vent on this blog? We are not going to stop them unless it’s legally disallowed.
we have an opinion of you, you may have an opinion of us.
Is this violating the law? No.
Is posting that opinion for everyone to read violating the law?
No, it is not.
Is telling someone in a public forum to fuck a speeding truck unethical? Well, ok, maybe it is.
someone might just laugh at you and move on.
Could it be harassment? Sure, if you decided to be a tool and you may or may not get away with it.
Is saying we don’t like the way you operate under these conditions and we feel they are useless and unwarranted against the law?
No, this is an opinion.
So remember the difference between opinion and law the next time you decide to ask us to remove entries.
if their Not violating the law? Your gonna get told to get lost.
Thank you for your time.
Blog readers;
We normally don’t get involved in battles that involve other authors who post here, nor do we involve ourselves in comment moderation as we feel it detracts from meaningful dialog between our readers and authors on topics that may interest them.
But the issue has gone from meaningful dialog on here and on other social mediums to stalking and harassment.
One of our authors has requested that the stalking behavior innitiated by one of you that reads this blog stop, immediately, and the same with the persistent wish that she take her own life.
The individual in question has had past and current suicidal ideations, and has basically been placed at a friend’s house and disallowed from utilizing, carrying, or otherwise handling sharp implements.
She has also openly discussed wishes to give herself alcohol poisoning and “get rid of everybody’s problem.” She has been further disallowed from obtaining or imbibing in alcoholic substances, and handed over any and all of her communication devices to trusted individuals. She has a midline brain defect that causes her body to process foreign substances, i.e., alcohol, differently ,which essentially means she can’t have it.
Administration must remind you that harassment of our authors and commenters is not tolerated. Our authors/commenters are allowed to have an opinion, but stalking and harassment are strongly discouraged. We will remind you of the difference between harassment and opinion below, for your reference. It is imperative that you understand the difference between the two. As mentioned above, continued and repeated failures to understand and abide by blog policy will result in the appropriate authorities being notified. We have a disclaimer for a reason, ladies and gentlemen, and this disclaimer should be read and followed. Information on stalking will also be included, to ensure that everyone’s on the same page here.
Harass:
1. to disturb persistently; torment, as with troubles or cares; bother continually; pester; *persecute.* (dictionary.com).
Please note the word persecute.
Instead of defining stalking, I’ll present you with a a fact sheet on stalking. It is strongly encouraged that you read over this material, as the authors and administration of this blog and website do not wish to have to file anymore no contact orders. As was previously stated, one has already been filed.
Now, let’s move on to the concept of an opinion. Again, dictionary.com is our resource of choice.
Opinion
1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
The co-writer’s opinion is that someone isn’t doing his or her job up to spec. she should be able to say that with impunity. The administrator thinks the co-writer’s mother is an idiot. He says this with impunity, quite regularly. The co-writer is of the opinion that Lenovo machines are piles of steaming feces. This is her opinion. The guy in the next room might think they’re great, but he can’t say that with certainty. The co-writer and admin are of the opinion that a stick of Ram in abovementioned Lenovo pile of fecal matter needs replaced, but we don’t know that for certain until we take it to someone who can look at it. I could bring it out to someone else next weekend who might say that the dying stick of ram in question is fine, and that’s his opinion.
As a final afterthought, we move on to the definition of a disclaimer.
Disclaimer:
3. a statement, document, or assertion that disclaims responsibility, affiliation, etc (dictionary.com).
So to summarize, your opinions are fine, but if you move onto harassing commenters or authors alike, and then after they ask you to stop it and you stalk them and continue the threatening/harassing behavior, your access to this blog’s comment facilities will be revoked.
This blog’s privacy and acceptable use policy will be rewritten by the administration team to better clarrify what we consider acceptable behavior just so that their’s absolutely know miscommmunication on the part of authors or commenters.
This is everyone’s final warning on the subject.
Thank you for reading.
The administration team
A quick reminder, because apparently certain people,
fitchburg state university
inparticular need the reminder.
The disclaimer states.
The opinions expressed on this blog are my own, or are the opinions of those who have posting rights to this blog, or are the opinions of respective commenters to individual posts, and do not reflect any other person, organization, entity or other such things.
moving on we have:
Unless required by canadian and/or US law, entries and/or comments are posted as is, and will not be removed for any reason, nor will the opinions be edited to fit one person’s eago or because their hurt by our opinion of them.
you have the ability to not read this blog, excersise that right. that simple.
So to those who have decided that wining’s gonna make me remove posts, it’s an opinion, that opinion is not in violation of the law, at least the law followed by most individuals not employed by
FSU
so kindly, suck it up, take offf your diaper and get lost.
Any questions or clarrifications about the disclaimer and policies on this blog, ask, but be nice or you will be ignored and blocked.
This blog has opinions, some of them rather pointed, hey, commenters to, and even we the authors have to suck it up and deal with it, weather we like it or not, so so do you.
Thank you.
The administration.
Hey there. Other code monkey here. You may or may not be aware the guy what primarily maintains this thing kind of made it commit suicide a bit ago. We’ve been piecing it back together since, and now, I’m fairly sure we’ve got everything back. One of the casualties of blog suicide? Related posts–I’ve since re-related those posts. You now once again have the option of jumping from today’s audio post to a random, possibly unimportant post, about Shane’s cat. Yay. Or something. Enjoy.
Ladies and gentlemen;
Throughout today, you may have seen comments scrolling across this blog, belittling, being rude towards, and just outright being unkind.
The simple fact is this.
Their was a family emergency, mainly, a death in the family. The message informing me of this fact, arrived this past Friday.
I then indicated that I was not attending any services for them and stated my reasons why.
Ever since then, I’ve had to deal with e-mails, facebook messages, etc. wining that I was a useless child, and saying things that aren’t fit for this blog or it’s readers.
I then noticed an onslaught of comments today, from these same people trying to make you all take their side saying similar things.
I have since removed these comments, and locked down commenting until such time as things calm down.
I apologize for this, but this is the only way to ensure my protection from those who wish to cause problems.
This blog’s authors and management take a dim view on those who are out to do nothing but harm others, weather it be an author, or another commenter, it’s not tolerated.
Thank you for your time, and again, sorry if you had to read that crap.
Ok;
The missing blog entries have either been imported, or the power of
google
was used to restore the entries in their entirety.
We’ve gotten rid of the duplicates that would show up on the main page as well. but do to linking structure breakage we don’t have time to go fixing all the links that broke because of this thing falling over.
so if you click a linked article and it takes you to the wrong place, use the search box to find the right one.
also, ignore anything that says
Mirrored from
insert blog name here.
it’s another issue we’re not going to fix, because it would take time, time we don’t have.
Don’t like? don’t read. simple.
Those entries’ll iventually scroll into the archives and you won’t see them anymore.
good night all.
The administration
Hey all;
We’re recovered mostly.
I had to use an LJ import, that still isn’t complete, so things might be duplicated.
Their are so many in here, that I don’t have time to go through and get rid of them all, so you all are just going to have to suck it up and deal with it.
Their are still a couple posts that need to be imported, but we’re working on that now.
Take care.
So today’s just turned into a box of fail.
Me in my infinant wisdom was doing preventative maintenance, clearing out old data that didn’t need to exist on the server, and instead of deleting the account I wanted to delete I deleted my own account.
Yep I’m a failbox.
I’m attempting to restore data.
Posts may not be able to be restored, but hey, the ratings sucked for the missing posts anyhow, so splarf.
I’m a box of fail.
Their are days that I’m lazy, and just don’t want to open up the web interface to post by e-mail.
Their’s also one author that posts regularly by e-mail, why? because it’s easiest for them.
Well as of now, that feature has been disabled.
the reason?
In a nutshell, the plugin’s a security risk and avoids all the security features wordpress has built in to prevent database corruption among other things.
The article I’m basing this decision is
over here
and is quoted below.
Product Review: POSTIE for WordPress
For the WordPress bloggers there aren’t many choices to post to your blog via email. POSTIE is the biggest or most well-known plugin to allow users to send emails to themselves and have them turned into WordPress posts automatically. It really is a neat idea and a good feature to have.
The lack of documentation for POSTIE is absurd. The author of the module/widget didn’t take the time to document how to get it to work the way it is supposed to. It also doesn’t contain any examples of the emailformatting required for a successful email to post conversion. After a fewhours of trying to get the TAG function to work (the ability to add tags to the post) I tried consulting other web sites to see if they could figure it out and to my surprise, there wasn’t anyone who could get it to workconsistently.
POSTIE allows you to add titles, tags and categories to the post but it never shows you how to do it. It appears the tags have to appear in a very specific order or they won’t be read at all. However, after trying to use the TAGS function at the top and at the bottom neither showed more orless successful than the other. Sometimes it worked, most times it didn’t. The other functions appeared to work okay. TAGS does not work so if that is important for you, you will need to use an alternative for POSTIE.
After successfully posting a few dozen test posts to Ask-A-Geek (minus TAGS, of course) I decided to look closer to the formatting of the posts and make sure everything looked how it was supposed to. After looking at every one of my posts I noticed a bug so large that it means one of two things. The author of POSTIE is an incompetent programmer, or worse- a lazy one.Any time an apostrophe ‘ is found in the email or post, it gets removed completely and replaced with a spacebar key. That means for everyone who likes to use contractions (can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, her’s) had messed up formatting and really screwed up words.
For example:
The hen’s house had no roof!
Turned into:
The hen s house had no roof!
There is no fix for this bug. If you can type everything without contractions then this doesn’t mean much for you, but for everyone else youwill regret installing and using POSTIE.
The last thing I wanted to mention was how POSTIE actually posts to WordPress. After looking through the code to see why the apostrophes weren’t working I noticed that the plugin works with the database directly. For most widgets or plugins for WordPress this wouldn’t be much of a problem. However when you’re dealing with actual posts then you’re opening a world of security problems. WordPress has a lot of built-in security filters to make sure the data is clean when it is submitted into the database. POSTIE avoids these filters and checkers completely and posts anything you want straight to the database. What’s so bad about that? If someonefigured out what email address you need to submit to AND what email address you need to submit from (it is easy to mask the FROM email address to make it look like it came from you when it really didn’t), they could inject MySQL code into the database and modify or delete everything you have.
In short, POSTIE is bug prone and does not post emails to WordPress in any functional manner. Even if the bugs get fixed someday it’s hard to trust a developer who releases untested and undocumented products. From asecurity stand point you risk losing all the data stored in WordPress if you use the POSTIE plugin. I recommend finding another alternative before it’s too late.
So now, it’s time to find another solution.
We also thank
james
for tracking that down, as well.
So the past couple of days have gotten interesting. For some reason 500 errors are deciding to show their faces, more regularly than not of late. We’re attempting to track down the issue, the current solution? hit the refresh button until the damn page loads.
Secondly. you can now get updates by e-mail! That’s right. As of the time this thing posts you can now get anything any of us post over here delivered straight to your inbox! Isn’t life grand? No more reliance on RSS. Just go over here Read the page, fill out the form, and away you go!
Lastly, you may have noticed a knew little nifty feature on all the post pages when you bring up the post on it’s own page. That being a section devoted to random posts that may or may not be related to whatever you happen to be reading. The things that keep this blog interesting.
With that, back we go to attempting to squash 500 internal server errors.
hey all;
we are back up and running. That *seemless* murge, kinda did that thing that
was being slow, and this blog and it’s related cronjobs kinda fell all over
the floor.
But it seems to have done that thing that is rectifying itself, so this
blog, as it is, is working again, so you, my faithful readers, can go on
about your days until I find something to post about.
Wait, their is something in the wings waiting, but you have to read the next
post, k?
That’s it from geek central in canadian hicksville!
Hey wait, I won’t be saying that on Sunday! yay!
Folks;
at midnight pacific tonight, 3AM eastern, their may or may not be a short
amount of downtime while this blog’s database gets moved to another server
for the purposes of load balancing.
That ends yet another geeky post from this corner that is the middle of
moving central.
from all of us who write and help maintain this here blog, we’d like to wish our readers a happy easter.
Weather your doing the whole easter go to church thing, or just chilling with family and friends and having a few drinks, please have a great one, and stay safe.
If your one of my sighted readers, please, if your going to drink, do not drive after consuming alcohol. It’s been said so many times, but let’s not give the statistics any more fuel. You drink, hire a designated driver, stay over night, or call a cab.
Again, happy easter.
Take care all.
This post is especially aimed at the folks at the ontario disability support program but will serve as a reminder to those of you that have forgotten.
I hereby will remind you that this is my personal blog, and the opinions, are my own, or those of the individuals that have posting privillidges, and as stated
over on this post.
content is not being removed because you feel threatened, or we make light of your stupidity.
This comes in light of a phone call myself and james received after speaking to the cornwall office of the ontario disability support program.
In light, basically because of james post over
here
wherein he states
I have a sneaking suspicion one of us is going to come away bloody. And I’ll be quite damned if it’s gonna be me.
If we dare to show up their on Monday, the police will be involved.
Ok, I might have worded the above quoted segment a little more professionally, but hey, you’ll have that, not my blog, so what the fuck.

In other words, James post stated his view, and his opinion on a situation, and now ODSP, has decided in their infinent wisdom, that we dare show up monday, they’re gonna call the police because they feel threatened.
I will not change the way I post, nor will I ask those who post here as guest authors, or as commenters to sensor what they
say for the eago or the feelings of one organization or individual.
You have the right to not read this blog, and I remind you to excersise that right, and keep the wining about how I’m a threat to you because of my opinion, over their in that corner.
I will quote the ppolicy that is on the top of every page on this blog, including this one in the event you can’t read, or simply skipped it.
The opinions expressed on this blog are my own, or are the opinions of those who have posting rights to this blog, or are the opinions of respective commenters to individual posts, and do not reflect any other person, organization, entity or other such things.
Unless required by canadian and/or US law, entries and/or comments are posted as is, and will not be removed for any reason, nor will the opinions be edited to fit one person’s eago or because their hurt by our opinion of them.
you have the ability to not read this blog, excersise that right. that simple.
and this just rolled across my desk, so bounce on over
here
and enjoy that thing to, k?
Thank you for your time, and now, back to that witch is not cluing the stupid, or maybe not, but whatever. This post is done.
So since the plugin I use to validate those things that call themselves your e-mail addresses is interfeering with some of the tweeks I’ve put in place, it’s been shot out of orbit and those errors some of you have been reporting should now very niftily fuck off.
now, back to catching up on RSS feeds, and finding more content for this here blog.
the things you do at 5AM.
related: internet explorer, when I have multiple tabs open, it’d be nice of you to like remember this and remind me of this when I close a window with multiple tabs open instead of just trashing the entire goddamn series. Thanks, microsoft, for falling on the floor, again.
From that person that actually owns this thing we bring you the following
I understand some of my readers wish to remain annonymous, fine, you can do that, but you can no longer post using any e-mail address or name that is currrently tied to any active account over here.
That, is that.
Now back to your regularly scheduled content, that may or may not include breakage.
Hey there. Other geek/webmaster dropping in real quick. At Shane’s request and to help combat the tom-fuckery that is ODSP, the blog is now partially supported by AdSense. We hope where they’ve been put doesn’t pose a problem for users, but in the event they do, let one of us know and we’ll maybe think about changing it.
Note: when one of us gets around to it, there will be an updated privacy disclaimer to follow. Eventually.
readers and commenters alike;
Firstly the sparatic 500 internal server errors that are cropping up over here, are being looked into, and we hope to have a resolution soon, so if something chucks an error, try the page again, or simply check the post itself as it’s a pritty good chance the comment or reply was posted.
If they get to frequent, or things stop posting, or stop loading, please let me know via e-mail or another offline means and we’ll dig even deeper.
Secondly, Due to the recent onslaught of people thinking they can hide behind the annonymous name, and use *my* e-mail address to post comments, this has been put a stop to, immediately.
You can no longer post with the name annonymous, and my personal e-mail address can also not be used to post comments, unless I’m logged in and posting comments/replies to comments.
If this does not stop people from commenting, I will institute registrzation to comment, and you’ll have to use a means not on this blog to reach me for an account.
This is not a forum for you to bash others for their views, nor is it a place for you to take out your frustrations on others that post here.
This is for lively debates, and discussion that pertains to the content posted, and not for your bitching and moaning because you don’t like that I allow others to post here.
Please, for christ sakes, excersise your brains, and instead of wasting mine, and the others administrators time with your useless crap, you don’t like what you read? don’t even read it, it’s that simple
Those of you actually contributing substance to this blog? keep it up.
Once again, you post using annonymous, or any varriation therein as your name? your comment won’t post.
Thanks and again I apologize to those who post things that are actually worth rreading.
I’ve been posting over the past few days about krista’s mother, and a lot of people have said that she’s needed a blog. so instead of buying a domain, and setting up another wordpress instance, this blog is now a colaberation between myself, and Krista.
So you’ll now get a double dose of randomness once I teach her how to completely use this thing.
Her first post will follow shortly.
so as something I’ve been watching since my post on
january 10
I’ve been monitoring google, specifically the keywords
wrms fire
and I started out on page 2, but as the days progressed, I climbed in the rankings, and as of the time of this post, I’m
number 2
and my blog’s homepage is
number 3
on google.
Please note the last time anything was posted on that issue was
january 14, 2011
and this thing’s still hella popular a week later?
The things that make my blog popular on google.
You may or may not be aware the blog’s up and switched servers lately. It’s also slightly switched directory structures around–which, rather summarily, caused existing links to break all over the place. Oops. Some of you may have been seeing “page not found” errors as a response. Shane’s aware of it, and dragged me over here to put an end to that. Now, if you’re brought here via one of the few links who’ve managed to somehow haunt the top rankings on Google, like for instance this one, it won’t actually tell you to go straight to hell, as it’s been doing the past day or two–and yet still, that post is freaking popular. Now imagine if we’d caught this sooner. No innocent squeaks died in the killing of this minor, yet annoying, blog bug. Now, back to your regularly scheduled rants from that guy what actually owns this thing.
PS: Just for the record, regular expressions are the best thing since the internets. Just saying.
As of today if someone uses the reply link and replies to a comment you post, you will get an e-mail with that comment in it, as well as the comment being replied to.
enjoy and happy commenting.
Dear blog readers,
After some extensive research throughout the day, I’ve been able to create a solution, that both allows for unmoderated comments, but will not allow commenters to post without an e-mail address that’s able to be validated by the server.
If your e-mail address can’t be validated, it’s simple yoru comment won’t get posted, and you’ll get an error tossed at your head.
That simple.
If you use a valid e-mail address and cause problems? well you get spammed, and perminantly denied access to the comment section of this blog.
Thanks for reading.
Dear readers,
With the influx of people attempting to start drama between me and krista over the past few days, and attempting to post unneeded and unwarranted comments to this blog, as of now, any and all comments will have to be approved by me or another administrator.
I never thought I’d have to resort to this, as it retracts from the freeform way I like my comments to run, and the discussion unmoderated comments allow, especially when a topic really gets going here, as I’ve seen in the past, but it had to be done.
I do apologize to those of you who are legitimately posting valid discussions to the blog.
If you have questions, or other less… manual ways, I can keep the unneeded/unwanted comments off the blog without manual intervension, I’m open to ideas.
Please note that akismet is already installed.
I’ll post later, hopefully with something more happy.
